If we got the email with the handbook are we considered enrolled?
@Kamekorage If you just got the email with the handbook, they issued an extension. I don’t know when, but get it done ASAP.
@imayrush Yes, congrats!
@ak2018 Hey can you message me on the books that are needed at SAMS? I got accepted and want to prepare beforehand. Thanks
So I went to submit my forms yesterday and it told me my application was locked . I emailed them and they said that they wouldn’t accept the documents late and that I should consider applying next year. So I guess I may not be attending SAMS
@GlitterStar100 We finished the last few items last night on the late side (Eastern Standard). I hoped there would be an email that said, all is complete. Anyway, it is locked and being “reviewed”.
@GlitterStar100 Are you sure that was not for CMU regular admission? I could understand that they would want the forms in on the 15th, in your case, as you were accepted early, and not waitlisted and then accepted. Did you email to this address: admission-outreach@andrew.cmu.edu ?
My name was just put into the directory!!! Just to clarify, this means I was accepted right?
@ferncuad Yes you did. Congrats!
My name is also in the directory! What am I supposed to do now? Btw I am not sure how long my name has been in the directory because this is my first time checking after their waitlisted email was sent
I just realized there was more info about SAMS. I got in too! What’s the directory? And is there a gc?
@itmeeee Congrats! At this point, you need to for the acceptance email. When you receive it, it’ll be official.
@ianinana https://directory.andrew.cmu.edu/index.cgi and yes, there is.
I got an email this morning saying I was accepted!!
@celestialkairos Congrats!
I got accepted into SAMS, but I’m still debating whether or not to go.
Which one looks better for colleges? SAMS or MOSTEC? (Excluding CMU and MIT)
Like SAMS is great that I get more time to bond and make friends, and there’s more excursions, but MOSTEC means I can work this summer and will be a slight boost for MIT.
@1TigerJ894 Neither has A LOT of influence on colleges, except at CMU, but just helps provides evidence and exhibits that you are an exceptional student. In all honesty, even as a SAMS alum, I considered working that summer and I really wished I did. Senior year, with all of the application fees, CSS fees, and other stuff can be a huge weight over one’s shoulder that could easily be alleviated with money from a summer job. This is just one thing to consider if you plan to apply to a couple schools where you’ll end up paying an average of $100 to each school in app fees. Especially if your parents
In terms of relevance, the top schools will know about either program, but will likely consider neither to be better than the other because they are so similar in rankings to the point where it doesn’t matter. CMU and MIT are both great schools and allowing you to do either program for free suggests that they believe you are an excellent student already and they will probably take their word for it. Unless you explain either program’s impact on you in an essay, it’ll just be another event to put onto your resume.
So no matter what you choose at this point, you’ll be just as good applying to any top school you want. Honestly, after going through it all and seeing my SAMS, MITES, and MOSTEC friends go through the app process, it was plain to see that some of us were just stellar applicants to begin with and that these summer programs aren’t all that. Like a SAMS alum from last year that I knew did terribly in all of his classes at SAMS, but still got into Yale. And, in reality, you could very well do terribly at SAMS and still get into CMU as SAMS can only help you, not hurt you, if you want to get into CMU. And that came straight from a CMU admissions person. At this point, it more so depends on the type of summer you want to have. Hope this helps!
Stupid question but how intense is SAMS workload. I’m stressing about practing for an audition, filling out college applications, common app stuff, summer work for school and just having somewhat of a life lol
@GlitterStar100 It’s pretty intense in terms of finding a good work-fun ratio, so I would recommend doing that stuff before or after SAMS.
Also, now that I am graduating and going on to college, I will no longer be as active on CC as I once was. As of this point, all waitlist notifications have been sent out for SAMS and, I would assume, every CMU pre-college
program. Congrats to everyone who was accepted initially or off the waitlist. To everyone who was not selected, this is does not signify that you are not worthy of being accepted into a top school. Use this something to prepare for your senior year, the final stretch. Take it from a senior, your final year will always count at the last second. Don’t slack off! I’m happy to finally pass the baton over to you guys. Don’t drop it!
Does anyone know if there is a group chat/facebook group for CMU AI 2018 or combined group for CMU SAMS AI AP/EA 2018? Thanks!
@excitedb just curious. When did you get notified?
