Carnegie Mellon Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) and AP/EA 2018

@ak2018 Just called and found out my son was waitlisted. Any idea how many kids get off the waitlist?

@Tennismomto5 that’s interesting. I wonder when they plan on sending out acceptance/waitlist information to the students.

@arivera1 Not sure. She asked his name and said they may have already made a decision, let me know he was waitlisted and said we could hear as early as a few weeks from now if he gets off the waitlist.

@Tennismomto5 Despite the outcome of your son’s decision, that’s actually still pretty good. Applicants were definitely picked off the waitlist last year, so your son still has a chance if he has not finalized his summer plans by mid-April. This is when they start to pull kids from the waitlist. Three friends of mine actually had to decline their SAMS acceptance due to other previously-scheduled summer commitments, so your son most definitely still has a chance. As of this point, anything good and noteworthy that could alter his spot on the wailist should be sent to them (updated transcripts, new awards, etc.). I hope your son the best and am definitely rooting for him!

@Tennismomto5 Does it show waitlisted on the portal? Good luck

@ARIVERA1 SAMS decisions are rolling-based, so it might be that decisions have already been made. I actually remember when last year after I got accepted, I found out that CMU’s online student directory included the names of accepted CMU summer program students. I actually found a way to let a few of my friends, who were MITES and SAMS applicants at the time, know of their acceptance days before they received an acceptance letter via email. Unfortunately, my CMU account has since been deactivated, so I can no longer check. However, anyone accepted into any CMU program would have access. It was quite an exciting process. Also, to answer your question, decisions WILL be coming out this month and next, a couple likely over the next few weeks. It’s most likely that some have already been accepted, but are not on CC. Everything should be finalized by the end of April.

Can someone please list their contact number? I think I’ll call them and ask tomorrow. Those of you who called what did you say to them when you were able to reach their office?

Thanks @ak2018

@ARIVERA1 No problem! :slight_smile:

thanks

We just contacted them and they said emails will be out next week.

@ARIVERA1 That’s great. I imagine a few acceptances will likely come out next week and will continue!

Does the 400-word essay count as a supporting document and therefore due on March 15?

I believe not

I reread their website information and it looks like it might be as you have to upload it after you receive their notice!

@gothamreal It is.

@gothamreal No, only found out because we called.

If anyone is accepted, write down your stats and why you were accepted.

@ak2018 Wait so how do you find out if you were accepted or not?
