@anonymous522083 Also, I’d be happy to help.
Also, to everyone in this thread, feel free to apply to the Matriculate free college admissions adviser program for low-income ($80K), high-achieving students

Has anyone heard of anyone receiving acceptances?
@ak2018 weird question, probably missed something. it mentions in application requirements how we need things like the 400 word essay and an activities resume. does that go in with the original application, or instead with the later supplemental stuff that’s due on the 15th, not in two days?
@violetzerwit the activities resume, LOR, transcript, and essay all go with the supplemental stuff that’s due on the 15th. The initial application that asks for your info like what classes you’re taking and income is due on march 1st.
@techie123 Unfortunately, no.
@violetzerwit What @rlee01 mentioned is correct.
hey y’all, I’m applying right now and I was wondering if a teacher or counselor rec is better?
@nlopez15 I’m pretty sure that a STEM teacher is needed for an LOR. I may be wrong, but this was how it was for us last year.

I’m confused about the program costs. On the information pages for the Game Institute (https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/access-nhsga) and the AP/EA program (https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/access-apea) it says tuition will be charged.
But on the actual application, it says the following: “There are no tuition, housing, or dining fees for students selected to participate in these programs.”

Can someone clarify? Why does it contradict?
And if AP/EA and Game Institute DO charge tuition, how much is it? I likely won’t qualify for any assistance or waiver or whatnot.
Thank you so much!

@Krisper9 It was most likely a typo on their part. I am very certain that AP/EA and Game Institute are not free UNLESS you receive financial aid as those programs tend to make CMU a lot of money. The tuition for these AP/E and Game Institute is anywhere from $2K - $6K, according to the website info I remembered seeing last year, depending on whether you want to have a dorm at CMU or would rather commute.
This is my advice to all of you currently applying to summer programs. Personally, I do not think that any pre-college summer program that charges you a fairly large fee to attend is worth it unless stated that it will give you an advantage when applying to said college. SAMS and AP/EA, with financial aid, do give you an edge, at least from CMU. This is just my two cents on expensive summer programs, but, for the most part, without financial aid, these programs can get away with charging you much more than you would spend by taking actual college classes over the summer. You, more likely your parents, would essentially be paying more for the idea of getting a taste of college life, with its late-night parties and all, a year or two earlier. Prior to receiving my SAMS acceptance, I had already planned to get a summer job. Overall, I think it is always good to have a back-up this summer, just in case you do not get into any summer programs and cannot afford the more expensive programs.
How should the activities resume should be structured? Should it look like a formal resume? @ak2018
@Parisien It would likely be preferable to the adcoms if it was a formal resume.
What time are the applications due? Mar 1st 11:59:59 PM EST? Or is it Feb 28 11:59:59 PM EST? Or somehwere in between?
Thanks!
@blotzok March 1st at 11:59:5pm EST.
@ak2018 thanks! Also, I see people mentioning a 400 word essay? I only have 2 100 word essays, is it based on the program I am applying to? Or does it come open after I submit?
Edit: whoops, I see the requirement now.
Does anyone know how competitive is the Pre-College Artificial Intelligence Program is? (i.e. acceptance rate)
It’s only one 100 and one 400 for sams
@ak2018 Yeah thank you - submitted this a while back, I guess it only got approved today
@Ariadne18 Because this is the Pre-College AI program’s initial year, the acceptance rate is unknown,
