Carnegie Mellon Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) and AP/EA 2018

Thank you for taking the time to respond to all of our questions and helping us with our stress! It really means a lot

I was wondering it it will hurt my application if I asked for two letters of recommendation? One from math and one from science? I have finished everything except and I am waiting on one more rec letter. Will they beginning review my app now or wait for the other letter? Also will I receive a confirmation email once everything is received?

Also, do I still have a chance for acceptance if I just completed my application and documents (waiting for one letter but the other is sent). I found out about this program late, but I am very interested.

did they ever ask you to send in the official scores or is it just when they think that it is suspicious? I sent in my transcript, but I asked for it a long time ago and they printed it out for me, so i just took a picture of it and sent it in.

I don’t want them to think that my transcript is fake because if they want me to send in the official one, I can. It’s just that I think that it will not be easy for them to read and I’m worried that they will be suspicious of me and reject me for that and I really want to get into this program.

@rlee01 You’re most welcome! :slight_smile:

@neeahhh They will have access to all of your supplemental info as soon as you submit it. You do not need to submit two LORs as they only want one. They will likely read the one that came first because of the limited time they have to make decisions. You will not receive a confirmation email since you should upload everything yourself in the supplement portal and that should serve as confirmation. You can email them to double-check. Also, as long as you finish the application by March 1st and submit your supplemental info (i.e. your transcript, recommendation and essay) by March 15th, you’ll be fine.

@curiousa3 Last year, we had to upload unofficial test score reports (I uploaded my PSAT score). I don’t know if they even require that this year. I believe in some cases, they might ask your counselor for info. As long as a transcript is sent, you should be fine.

Hi CC,

I submitted my basic information and submitted the application, but I didn’t add my recommender as it said I could I do that in the additional materials section. I don’t have the template for the letter of rec so I don’t know what to do now.

@Elki2401 Personally, after submitting my online applica tion I asked my teacher to write my recommendation.
She wrote it on a Google Doc (no template) and sent it to me, wherein I submitted it on the portal as a PDF document. I emailed CMU afterwards to make sure it was okay to send it like that, and they said that it was.

From what I understand, the teacher could also send it as mail directly to CMU, but since I didn’t do it that way, I’m not much of a help for that lol

Alright. I was really worried and feel reassured now

Do we need to submit all test scores? @ak2018

@Elki2401 Yeah, the most efficient method is to have your teacher write an LOR, send it to you, and upload it to the additional materials section.

@Parisien I don’t believe you have to. You should just be submitting your highest scores.

Are you still willing to read some of our essays and provide feedback?

Thanks for responding @ak2018. It says however, ā€œIf you’ve taken any standardized test, please self report the scores you’ve earned.ā€ It sounds like they want all scores, but they didn’t specifically use ā€œallā€ …?

@rlee01 Yes, I am. I’d probably get to your essay by end of the week.

@Parisien When I applied, the only score I had was my PSAT score, so that is what I put down. I do remember, however, one SAMS scholar who said they just put down their highest score. In reality, there is little to no way for them to verify the number of standardized tests you took.

@ak2018 I need to upload my ACT scores (I just got my scores back and I did well) but I don’t see place to upload them after I submitted the initial application. What should I do?

@esperantist You would have to email them about the score update. I’d include an unofficial ACT report, if the ACT does that.

hey what are somebodies accepted stats

who is applying because id not find where you submit transcript

I ned help with application who can help

@anonymous522083 You have to submit the initial application first, then you will be submit your transcript in the additional materials section.
