Carnegie Mellon University Class of 2024 Wait list

What i learned from another parent’s input yesterday was that they first pick students from WL who can pay the full price. Definitely not need blind.
Seems that virus could discriminate based on economic status so does elite education

I don’t completely agree… I’m sure there were more people like me who weren’t full pay, so I don’t think that they’re only going to accept those who are! Fingers crossed guys

There are two things that colleges focus on for their waitlist:

  1. Diversity: They want to get people that'll make their roster more diverse.
  2. Money: After giving out a ton of financial aid, colleges have much less money to spare for waitlisted students.

In the end, waitlists aren’t need-blind and give colleges much more leeway to pick students that they want.

rip on the diversity and money part :frowning: I’ll prob just go to my 2nd choice (U-M)

I don’t think that any colleges are fully need blind when they reach the WL phase. By that point they have given most of their merit aid and are looking more intently but not exclusively for full pay students.

makes sense

Waiting on CMU waitlist but of curiosity, what school/program did you deposit at?

I deposited at umich’s engineering program. I was hoping to get in CMU bc they offered me more money than umich but idk about my chances any more lol.

How do you communicate to a school that you are not looking for financial aid?

CMU SCS had a yield of 33% in 2019. Now assuming that the yield is further impacted adversely by 25% due to COVID-19, that makes for a yield of 25% so approx 55 fewer people than last year or in other words 55 open spots. Now it could be more or less than a 25% impact. Any guesses?

I’m not following you here… what do you mean by yield? How was a yield of 33% impacted adversely by 25%, approximately a 25% yield? Sorry but I’m completely lost.

So… is dietrich not accepting from the WL?

I am on the waitlist and have not herd anything back yet. I am an international student studying in a catholic high school in CT area and I was waitlisted from RD. I kept constant contact with my AO though hardly any reply back. My high school advisor also reached out but got no reply. My SAT is 1540 and GPA is 4.3 in my school. I honestly think that by now if nothing pops up, it’s basically a rejection:(

Don’t lose hope yet. When everyone got Tepper emails on Monday, I was so sure I was rejected, but then I got an email yesterday after everyone else! The notification process is so so random so keep waiting!

@Jubymon probably a better choice

Can someone ask them if they still have spots for Dietrich?? I’m getting a bit worried at this point :frowning:

I just received an email at 9:20 am from admission office. I was offered a spot at engineering as originally declared. In the letter it indicated there is no more spot in computer engineering.

come on…hopefully there’s something left in SCS sigh

Just wondering, how many of you who were accepted received any financial aid? I got a pretty large grant and the fact that the waitlist is not need-blind is making me very worried

is anyone here waiting to hear back from the school of design?
