I am currently deciding between going to Carnegie Mellon or Umass Amherst for Electrical Engineering. I Know that Carnegie Mellon is rated better, but it is also much more expensive. I was offered no aid from either school, and will have to pay full freight. I have a college fund my parents saved for me which will cover either school, but my parents say that I can keep any money left over to go to grad school if I want. I will only have money left over If I choose UMass, and would spend it all on Carnegie Mellon. Thus my question, how important is grad school for electrical engineering. Should I go to umass then grad school, or Carnegie Mellon and straight to work.
A BS degree in EE is fine for seeking most kinds of EE work. PhD would be needed for academic and some industrial research work. But PhD programs are typically funded.
