I heard kids on the waiting list do really crazy stuff to get the attention of the admissions officer… so i made a paper mache of a melon and wrote C A R N E G I E on top of it… and then i put my letter of appeal inside and a CD containing a video of my achievements… then on the letter it says: “My heart belongs within Carnegie Mellon” (cuz its inside a melon… the letter = heart = my honest feelings)… so i thought it was a pretty creative idea and now im planning to send it… so I just wanted to know if this is actually okay XD… and i just wanted to know if MELON would be insulting to CMU…

I can’t tell if this is a serious post or not.

Sounds like a way to get off the list…maybe not in a good way though.

April Fools?

omg… i swear to god i can even take a picture of my melon -_-… seriously its not even april fools anymore in the philippines…

In that case, yes, I think sending a melon would be a little bit silly. The school’s named for Andrew Mellon, an industrialist. That would be almost as ridiculous as sending Cornell an ear of corn or a cornish hen. You’re a big kid trying to get into university, not a fourth grader trying to impress his mom.

People do crazy things to get off the waitlist, but it’s a rare case in which it ever works.

took me 6 hours to make it though… and if its just a melon then it wud be silly… but it has a deep meaning to it… argh people think this is a joke -_-

This is the kind of innovation that promotes much-needed diversity in IT schools like CMU. Quirky, creative and original. Go for it little dude.

i say go for it!

You should sent it.

im just worried they might take it as an insult… cuz Mellon is from someone’s name… should i take the risk??? if this was Harvard or NYU im sure they would have been really entertained and would have taken this with enthusiasm, but i’m really not sure about Carnegie Mellon hahahahaha

Are you an art major?

If not-- it’s creative and adorable-- but it doesn’t wipe out whatever deficiency led to the lack of an acceptance letter.

How are you going to pack that thing and not have it break?

no LOL as you can see by the mediocre melon paper mache I am NOT an art major… im an econ major haha… took me so long to make that XD

oh and im planning to put it inside a box and just send it off to CMU… and its pretty strong, so I think it will survive the long flight haha

Go for it! At the very least, it shows you took the time to prepare something, and that you’re seirous about coming if accepted.

I think it’s cool :)

You should definitely try it. What are they going to do, put you on the sub-waitlist?

I think its kind of cute and different, but make sure you are addressing any academic improvements, any awards won or additional ways you have contributed to your community or school as well. There is a reason you were not admitted initially and altho kind of charming, a melon will not show your committment to CMU or demonstrate improvement alone.

yes yes
i wrote about my new achievements after i sent in my application haha

thank you everyone for the positive responses haha!! I really hope it works!!

I wrote about having an extra toe in my commonapp so I say go for it!

woah excellent idea!! i respect you OP for all this hahah
