ACT once 33 (36 r, 35 e, 30 m, 29 s)
3 AP junior yr (all 5s - English, USH, Govt)
Will take 5 APs senior year (including calc and physics, studio art)
Eagle Scout
Varsity xcountry, track
RISD game design certificate
Art awards (gold key scholastic), school
Academic excellence awards history,
Karate black belt, PADI scuba diver
Chess club
Various community service

Thanks for your input!

How many honors? SAT IIs? Either way, USC looks like it is a low reach at worst from what you tell us. Still, more info is needed.

Thanks, no SAT IIs yet - will take Math I, II, and physics. For classes:

English - honors first two years, AP next two years
Science - honors bio, chem, physics, will take AP physics
history - honors world, AP USH
Math- honors algebra, algebra II, geometry, will take AP calc
Art - honors graphic design, AP studio art
AP US Govt
Language - honors French

I’d say reach for all since 1. I dont know his GPA and 2. He has only taken 3 APs and I don’t know if that was the max he could do and 3. I don’t know his intended major so I don’t know if his extracurriculars can relate or paint a picture around what he wants to do.

@“Mass Dad” your son should be a contender for all of the schools you list. However there are probably 5 or 6 equally qualified kids for each slot. Your S needs to craft his story so he stands out. Good luck to you.

Thanks, 4Gulls. I think you are right about the numbers involved. This is our second time at the dance. Our D goes to Wellesley and it’s very apparent most young adults who apply to these schools are incredibly qualified - one slot for every 5 or 6 who could go.

one of the best game design programs in the entire country is actually at RIT. Focus on the major not the marquee

Thanks, stones3. My S will apply to RIT as well. I think RIT, USC, and CMU are all supposed to have very good reps for game design - those particular ivies to a lesser extent. Thanks, again.
