Cars on Campus at Elon: Advice?

Our daughter will be an incoming freshman and wants to bring her car to school. Any advice from students or parents? Is vandalism ever a problem like it can be at bigger schools?

I never heard complaints about vandalism, but the school does ticket pretty aggressively if you dont have the right parking pass.

My son took his car as a freshman. Many people do get ticketed, so make sure your daughter is following the parking rules, including knowing when she might have to move to a different lot on football game days for example. My son never had any problems, and has not gotten a parking ticket so far! I’ve never heard of any vandalism or break inns, but of course you would want to follow the standard advice of never leaving a laptop or backpack visible in the car.

My D hopes to be able to bring her vehicle to school (we live 5 hr drive away) since it will give her a lot more freedom to quickly head to a store if need be or visit a friend in a neighboring college, etc.

I haven’t read up on the Elon website about how this works, but does anyone have insight on it? Are there parking lots close to each of the freshman dorm buildings? Or is there a huge lot on the outskirts of the campus where all the students leave cars for a week or two until the need them to get away from campus?

Do we have to pay extra if we want ability for student to keep a car on campus?

Hey nursedad, this should help answer your questions about parking for “FY” first year students.

Do not go by current maps. The parking is changing and will be near Daniely next year for first years. There are other changes coming but since you’re talking about a freshman this is what you need to know.

My freshman D has a car at Elon and it has saved her sanity. Some kids may not feel the need to get out but she values the independence and ability to buy food and supplies and she uses it for an internship and a sport activity. She is able to park right next to her dorm (although that may change next year it sounds like). The permit was not expensive and parking seems plentiful enough for those that want it based on my several visits to campus this year (to watch sports, etc). The permit was not wildly expensive (I can’t remember how much, but compared to tuition it felt like a rounding error).
