Cars with a super smooth ride

So…our family is due for a new car — we’ve been talking about it for months. And…I just had major abdominal surgery and have now made our main criteria a vehicle that is super smooth on bumpy roads.

Any suggestions? Other criteria, in descending order, are safety, cost (we tend to purchase used in order to save money), plug-in electric hybrid (we already have a charging station).

I prefer SUVs or crossovers; DH prefers sedans. Either is acceptable.

Looking for a vehicle probably from 2018-2024, but would definitely go older to save money if other criteria were met.

All gas is fine by the way— we don’t drive much and our other car is a plug in.
Thanks, hive mind!

Lincoln apparently makes smooth riders that seniors like.

We really liked our Lexus RX (small SUV). I don’t care for the “zoom zoom” stuff. The RX was heavenly smooth. I did not hesitate to drive myself to the follow up appointment after my hysterectomy.

That’s a great endorsement!!

You might want to consider the Royal Deluxe II:

(Sorry, couldn’t resist. The thread title brought back a hilarious memory.)

Old cadillacs were always comfy cars to us. We had one for several years.

I test drove a BMW X3 a couple weeks ago. Then I test drove a Ford Escape. The ride was virtually identical with both cars. I found the BMW overcomplicated and a potential nightmare when repair bills come. So We bought the Ford. There’s some killer deals going on with Ford, especially with Broncos and Explorers.

I’ve been on a road trip in my 2024 Volvo S 60 for the last 4 hours (4 hours to go). It’s quiet, smooth ride, and comfortable

Thanks! Did it handle well on bumpy roads, if you could tell?

Thank you!

Honesty, I don’t even notice when I’m on a bumpy roads. The car handles like a cloud. And heated seats are a the best EVER!

One thing we like better about sedans is having a trunk for IMPLIED protection. One thing we like about SUVs & similar is higher clearance for steep driveways with sharp angles.

I had a Lexus 450H RX and it was a remarkably smooth ride. I replaced it with something smaller because I just didn’t need such a big vehicle (and it did feel like a beast to park) but nothing else I test drove felt quite as solid and smooth.
