Which one is more competitive, prestigious, etc?

I’m only a new admit, but I think I know the answer to part of your question.

CAS has set majors as well as the Morse Academic Plan (MAP for short). Gallatin is for those that want a more free form, self designed major and course of study.

I think CAS is more prestigious, as some other posters who were current students equivocated Gallatin with LSP (which is CAS’s 2 year entry program).

Probably CAS, but Gallatin is like a completely different sort of school. CAS has set classes based on your major, but Gallatin lets you design your own major, so I don’t really think they can be heavily compared. Gallatin lets you do what you want.

My son wasn’t particularly interested in prestige, but I’ve been suprised how known Gallatin is among people I’ve had casual conversations with in professional settings. “Hidden gem” is one phrase I’ve heard. It is very small (about 250 freshmen) and most applicants write a separate additional essay about their multi-disciplinary academic interests. It has nothing to do with LSP, which is very structured for two years. Gallatin is for those who are seeking to link the NYU resources across all schools to form an individualized area of study developed over four years. There are some courses taken wthin Gallatin as well, and senior presentation.
