CAS vs LSP; bs classes

A worry I have for LSP is that they have bs classes. I mean, what the hell is Cultural Foundations? No college would accept that class as transfer credit. Then I looked at the MAP and their classes sound just as bs. I mean, Text and Ideas: Litearture in Wonderland. What the hell is that? What happened to normal classes like physics 101, microbiology, Shakespeare, Medieval German history, ect? Maybe I just percieved college incorrectly.

Anyway, should I fear that the LSP classes will be bs, or at least more bs than the MAP reqs?

If your idea is to transfer, the LSP requirements could spell trouble.

Most of the classes in LSP are focused on developing your reading and writing skills as evidence with the heavy emphasis on Literature/History classes. That’s the goal of LSP, to build your liberal arts background. You can however take certain CAS classes like the ones you envisioned below to fulfill certain requirements or just take as electives. Good thing for you is that if you don’t really think the LSP classes suit what you want long-term, you are in CAS after sophomore year, assuming you maintain the required GPA.

MAP does have a few courses that nobody wants to take like the Expository Writing and other TA taught classes that you take because NYU makes you take them. Whether you’re in LSP or CAS, once you get past all the required credits you need to graduate, you’re basically free to take the classes you want because by then you’d have chosen a major.
