Case Western 2023 RD

@DSOF20192023 and yes… good luck to both of them. ?

S19 hasn’t shared the number with me - his father has trained him to speak in terms of net cost, but given the net cost, he must have been given an offer of around $27k also. But it’s really hard to get him to think in terms of this being a nice offer. I think he’s still feeling a little raw from all the wait-lists and he’s focusing on the schools that did accept him with great merit offers. He’s staying on the wait-list, but I don’t know how much his heart is in it.

Did anyone get the university scholarship?

Received a University Scholarship

@DSOF20192023 Yea, as this point it might be reading too much into it! Who knows what major each person has or if they are left handed oboe player or whatever might fit into the CWRU community.

@bopper Understand :smile:

If it helps others assess, my daughter a prospective bme major and, by chance, an oboe player  although she hasn’t been as active with that in the last two years, was offered $15,000 as a member of the waitlist. That means those with the $27,000 offer are sitting pretty well.

Our challenge is deciding whether to invest the time to get to an admitted student day. She would never accept a spot from the waitlist without visiting again and they made pretty clear on the call tonight that kids won’t have much time to decide if/when they get an offer. Given that there are two bme prospectives just on this thread, who are valued over $10,000 more than her, it seems like a long shot. I also think she has a really great option in Pitt so not sure what she will do.

Can you share what they said on the call?

@bopper Explained WL process. Suggested interested students to respond to weekly Friday morning WL emails. Visit campus as students may get 48 hours to decide (after May 1st) or few days (if admission given in last week).

No additional recommendations needed but some additional changes could be sent.

Last year 0 WL got cleared, so it is very unpredictable, hence suggested to have a backup plan. Also full gap year and semester gap may be options.

First acceptances (if any) will be around April 15th (historically).

No stats shared on how many in WL.

If you look at previous Common Data sets it is usually in the mid thousands.

If you were waitlisted and then received a merit scholarship, does that mean that you have higher chances of getting in?

Honestly, really surprised that I got waitlisted. CWRU is like a dream for me tbh. I just received my estimated financial aid and they are GENEROUS!!

@pittsburghscribe I don’t think the value of the merit means as much as it seems for the waitlist. Also your data
is skewed by who logs onto College Confidential, hundreds do not.

Case, like any school, wants geographic and gender diversity. So, they will choose students off the waitlist, based
in part on that. And on interest. If you have time, go back, but visits are not always so helpful either.

Its more of a decision can she stand the psychological torture of more waiting and not mentally committing to her second school for longer, when all her high school friends are committing to a school and feeling happy. Since Case takes students off the waitlist quicker than other schools, may be worth it.

I know four accepted students who will say no to Case. One boy in Northern CA CS, one in Texas, boy BME, and two more, don’t know their home state. Every year plenty of students turn down Case, sometimes because they cannot afford it, and they stay home at home flagship, sometimes because they like another school better.

I am waitlisted. In my financial aid package, it didn’t mention the $25,000 a year scholarship they said they would give to admitted waitlisted students. Am I still getting it? (Note my net costs under the financial aid they gave me are under 25,000)

You don’t automatically get $25K…if you were admitted outright and would have gotten 25K, then you would get it as a Waitlisted student.
I don’t know what you were offered…contact admissions or the financial aid office and ask if you have questions.

Oh now I understand my financial aid! Thank you!

My estimated financial aid package is about $19K. I am an international applicant and with that package it will be pretty hard. Does anyone know if they’ll give a tad more if taken off the wait-list?

As far as I know you get the package you would get if you are admitted or admitted off the waitlist.

Hope Case start clearing WL from today

I really wish they start it very soon.
