My kid’s had a personal note in the PS as well
For those put on the WL:
Case will send out emails soon asking if you want to be on the WL. Contact your Admissions Counselor (Contact | Undergraduate Admission | Case Western Reserve University ) and (if this is the case) tell them if you are admitted you would attend. At this point they have two objectives:
-
Fill the class and the housing (but not more students than housing)
-
Protect the yield… they don’t want to offer you admission at this point unless you attend. Yield is the ratio of offers of admission to enrolled students and is used, amongst other things, to rank schools.
Case provides housing to all freshman so they need to make sure they don’t have too many or too few freshmen…
Read this to see the % of students accepted off the WL …recently varying from 0 to 22%
any idea when they make the WL decisions.
Deferred → Accepted. +33K/Y with intended major as engineering. OOS, 35 ACT, 4.57 W, 12 APs Good ECs, Great Awards, no demonstrated interest.
D25 biochem 1570 4.0 accepted with 42k/yr. The little personalized note was cute.
accepted for business, 31k/yr, ps note nice. 3.87 uw gpa, 12 aps’s, 34 act, lots of leadership ec’s. congrats to all accepted.
Yield protection or not, they had my daughter on a roller coaster.
Deferred her from EA, and then WL last week.
Friday she was accepted into CalPoly Mechanical Engineering (acceptance rate 5%.)
I asked her over the weekend if she was still going to accept the CW waitlist. She laughed, “They couldn’t decide, so I have,” and she declined.
My oldest is about to graduate from Cal Poly with a computer engineering degree. Cal Poly was not his first choice (or his second) but it has turned out to be a truly excellent place for him. I think it’s a very special school. Your daughter is going to have a great time there. Good luck to her!
Well, she hasn’t accepted yet. She has 10 schools dropping decisions over the next two weeks, and is still on the fence re acceptances from UCM for Bioengineering, and UCR for a 5 year BS/MS Bioengineering.
But CalPoly in her pocket renewed her confidence.
I’m glad your son found the perfect place. SLO is a great town to spend college years.
D29 was deferred from EA, now offerred admission with 23K. She also had a cute personalized note in the letter. I see that some of you are mentioning you were accepted in music or business or engineering etc. but Case confirmed to us via email that they have a “single-door” admission policy and she was not admitted to a specific major. They say the same on their website too. Wondering if some were offered admission in speciifc majors?
Music is a bit different, and requires submission of music arts supplemental and in some cases, a live interview and audition.
What an incredible cohort with so many given the remarkable opportunity to attend an elite institution with a significant merit award. My D was awarded $39k. She is very social and outgoing and hoping that many others like her will be attending!
I got waitlisted for the class of 2029, and I was think of writing a Letter Of Continued Interest (LOCI).
I want to know a few things:
- Should I send a letter?
- If not what else can I do?
- If I can send the letter, What should I say in the letter? I Live In NC and we don’t have the money to travel anytime soon, I can’t talk about visiting the campus in the letter, so what are some other things I could say?
I would send a letter. Be yourself. Perhaps read their studnet newspaper or some recent press releases and note how something they mention aligns with your interests and potential contributions.
Also, the most recent episode of the "Your college bound kid " podcast mentioned that they expect more waitlist action (across the board, not specific to Case) this year, so there is hope.
Good luck! Im sure you will thrive wherever you land!
I think people mean they said that they wanted to major in Engineering or whatever and were accepted…but they are not limited to that.
Yes, send a letter of continuing interest (LOCI)
If you look at the Wait List FAQ post you will see that 22% of students on the WL were accepted last year.
Look up your admissions, counselor Contact | Undergraduate Admission | Case Western Reserve University for who to send a letter to.
Write an email (letter of continuing interest aka LOCI)
Honestly, I would use a chat. GPT kind of thing to get a good template for an email like this. But what I would do is include specific examples of why CWRU is your top choice. I would look at the “ About” section on the CWRU website and use some of that to talk … for example there’s a phrase that says that the mission vision and values” propel us, every day, to think big and think beyond the possible”
So maybe you talk about something that you’re thinking big about .
Also, it talks about building relationships across greater Cleveland and is there anything there that you could show interest in?
Case is also big on experiential learning so do you have any thoughts on co-ops or study abroad or anything like that that you’re interested in?
also search “traditions” on the cwru website and see if there’s any that particularly speak to you that you might show that you want to be interested in participating in?
And of course, most importantly, if it’s true, then tell them if accepted, you would attend Case
I have been emailing my area admissions officer but she hasn’t responded back, so I sent another email, and she still did not respond back. Who should I send my LOCI to if my AO does not respond? Should I also Share optional application enhancement materials? Like a resume? The thing is they said that they consider the application of the students who have been waitlisted ‘perfect’ as it is and it is not because you fell short to meet the standards, but it is about the space, and so I was wondering, would there even be a point in sending a LOCI?
At this point, Case, like any other school, wants to make sure that if you were to be offered admission you would 100% attend. So they are at the point they have to decide who to make WL offers to once they find out by May 1 how many students will be attending.
If you look at the Waitlist FAQs (CWRU Waitlist FAQs) you will see that 22% of the students on the WL were admitted last year.
The admissions counselors are busy this time of year so I wouldn’t worry too much about them not responding. Just make sure they know that you would definitely attend (if that is the case). I would also add in the LOCI some info about how you may relate to their mission and traditions etc.
My D25 missed the webinar for waitlisted students and so did we. Wonder if it will be considered as a lack of interest. Honestly she isnt very interested in writing a LOCI either, but we think it would be a good option if she gets admitted to pre-med.
Can anyone share an itinerary or program for Case’s Accepted Student Days? I know they are Thursday-Friday, but I’m not sure what’s available on each day. Has anyone received more detailed info or attended a prior event?
