Well ED is high for any DI - I mean, you can’t get better. But they are admitting 38%.
I wish your student luck and if not CWRU, they’ll find another great home. The great ones typically do.
I’m just noting - to defer to yield protect makes little sense. By the time they come around in RD, your student will have moved on mentally - likely already has so that does them no good. I wish we could see stats from schools that people claim purposely do this though - how many do they arm twist into doing so. I can’t imagine many.
When only 10% of your offers are saying yes, and you’re throwing big money to boot, well….we can agree to disagree.
I’m guessing there’s something in the app they saw they didn’t like…but none of us are them so…..
They are definitely yield protecting. They are deferring high stat kids who they think won’t accept their offer. But in the process they are also losing these kids because other colleges will take the chance and accept those students - and who would you choose?? A college that deferred you or one that showed you the love??
I think the flaw in their plan is by deferring, they cant tell high stat kids what their merit offer would be. And for some families, that may be important.
They should let them know up front so they can make an informed decision. Although their merit offers are faily predictable which is usually around $30-$40k/yr.
Im not sure when they started this “suggestion” of ED2 but they were probably tired of being the back up plan.
Of course the reason so many high stat kids apply is exactly that - they’re a great option - just not their top option.
Question for those who were offered fall or spring admittance… Did you also get a financial aid package? Not sure if we didn’t qualify or if they just didn’t come out yet.
In the same boat as you it seems being deferred EA and suggested ED2 or spring start. No merit/aid was mentioned in deferral letter. Maybe if accepted during RD round?
Is there a difference in financial aid awards for ED students (or EA or RD)?
This one is easy: Nope! CWRU meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students, regardless of their admission plan. (You may want to review our financial aid application requirements if you have not already started this process.)
