*What I want to know is this: What did she expect? Did she think nobody was ever going to ask about her child being absent? *

Casey was working on a lie to her mom. Casey was planting the seeds. She was telling her mom that she was dating a guy named Jeffrey Hopkins who was from a very wealthy family and that she could see herself getting serious with him. She was trying to set up a situation where she could “disappear” by claiming that she and Jeffrey had eloped somewhere and decided to live elsewhere.

One thing that should have been told at the trial that also would have suggested pre-med. Casey started dating Tony around Memorial Day…yet she never told her parents his name. Casey had always told her parents her BFs’ names. But, she never told her parents Tony’s name…never. Why???

Did Casey know back in May that she was going to do this and she needed to have somewhere to flee to and it had to be with someone her parents didn’t know???

She didn’t think about it either way. She didn’t worry that someone would find out, and she didn’t feel certain that she would get away with it. She just didn’t feel, period.

Certain broken minds just don’t work like ours. My drug-addicted aunt has had us asking the same kind of questions for decades. Did she really think no one would notice the money missing? Did she really think the police wouldn’t know that she and her friends committed burglary against her own mother? Did she really think we wouldn’t notice she was high? Did she really think she could go on a bender and leave her daughter with us for three days without us calling the police? Did she really think she wouldn’t go to prison for whatever felony she committed most recently?

No, she didn’t think any of those things. She just didn’t think. She did exactly what felt best to her or got her what she wanted at that moment, which is her only definition of right. And she always feels that the consequences are utterly unfair, and that everyone is just out to get her, because after all she only does what she thinks is right.

I think her plan was to pretend Caylee was with her Hispanic nanny on a trip/vacation (out of the country). Lets remember Casey NEVER reported Caylee missing. After a month of not being able to see or talk with Caylee C & G went looking for her. Had they waited 6 months versus 1 month - Casey could have easily made the kidnapping story (the nanny never returned with Caylee) hold-up.

No part of her story would hold up better after six months than after one month. I think the facts of the case, Casey’s behavior, and the outcome of the trial would be about the same.

*There are obvious complications with her returning to her parents’ home, where she lived before she was jailed, given the stinging accusations her attorneys leveled against them during the trial.

“Due to the high profile nature of this case and intense, emotional interest by the public, appropriate measures will be taken to release the individual into the community in such a manner so as to preserve the safety of the individual and the public,” Orange County Corrections Department spokesman Allen Moore said.

Meanwhile, prosecutors are asking Judge Belvin Perry to recoup investigative cost for them and authorities. The mandatory minimums for those are $100 per case for felonies and $50 per case for misdemeanors. The state is seeking reimbursement for more than that and said in a motion filed late Wednesday that it has documentation of what it calls special costs. It will be at the judge’s discretion.**

State law does provide for restitution to be ordered for costs of the investigation, regardless of the defendants’ ability to pay. But Anthony would have to be put on probation in this situation.*

It will be interesting to hear the prosecution argue that if it’s true that Caylee drowned on June 16th as her defense says, and it has been proved that she lied to police which caused a very expensive investigation, that she should be heavily fined.

I hope she is very heavily fined. VERY heavily…especially in light of what her lies did cost.

OK, this is a moot point by now, but it has always bothered me that anyone could ever believe that Casey could afford a nanny! Even if she was working at Universal, there’s no way she could afford to pay for a babysitter on what probably amounted to < $10/hour. Didn’t her parents ever question that?

*Did she think nobody was ever going to ask about her child being absent?

==================================

She didn’t think about it either way. She didn’t worry that someone would find out, and she didn’t feel certain that she would get away with it. She just didn’t feel, period.*

She didn’t think her parents would call authorities. In the past, they never did…when she stole money from them…and when she stole money from the grandparents.

patsmom, that was one of the first questions that I had. 2+2 needs to equal 4 or there should be some red flags. It never made sense to me. I wonder if the parents thought she had enough cash for a nanny since she stole from them, or if parents felt that since she was not paying rent, and not making car payments that her salary could pay for a nanny.

I somehow missed that she was a HS dropout. I wonder how long before her life spirals out of control: mental illness, personality disorder, lack of education, pathological liar, has trouble separating fact from fiction… This will be painful to watch unravel. And even more painful if she has another child.

“I wonder how long before her life spirals out of control”

I wish this would happen, but I don’t think it will. I think she will be surrounded by Baez and his crew or closely watched. She is their meal ticket. They are ALL going to be making a bundle on this. Casey, her attorneys, the jurors and the judge, possibly even the prosecution with book deals and appearance fees. There’s a boatload of money to be made and I think they all will be looking out for their share.

It is now a possibility that any upcoming book advance money, or other monies earned, might go to paying back the police, FBI, and others for their search efforts. If she in fact DOES have to pay back the multi-million dollar search effort that took place, she has dug herself a huge financial hole. No sympathy from me…

We can only hope she has to pay and pay big. I also hope she gets more time in jail. The judge has every right to make her stay 4 years total. With time served (not for the check wrtiing) - she could be in jail another 2 1/2 years. It’s not much, but it’s better than seeing her walk out of that courthouse today.

Unless she is willing to prove exactly what happened to Caley, I think folks are going to lose interest within a few months. Americans have a short attention span.

Sure there will be books, etc, but I am not sure who will be buying, unless they claim information not revealed.

Some idiot publisher may shell out big bucks in an advance for her, but I bet they would never recoup their monies.

Most think she is guilty of at least something. I can’t expect they will be eager to support her by buying anything she offers.

Patsmom, that’s the FIRST thing I thought of with Casey and the “nanny”. She was getting minimum wage, I’d guess and could afford a babysitter day after endless day? Even sharing with another family (like she said)made no sense to me whatsoever. Also, what about tax time and W2’s? Did they ever discuss if her taxes were done at tax time, whatever? Maybe she just lied, as usual, saying she took care of it online. Seems like both of them, the mother in particular, were complete enablers to a very dysfunctional girl. You can’t tell me that at 20 she all of a sudden spiralled out of control. I bet she’s been a problem for years.

I was surprised that Robin Meade on HNews said she had no idea where Casey’s funds were coming from. I guess she didn’t hear about the stealing from the grandfather’s nursing home fund or the checks from Amy Huizenga.

My guess is that G has a small pension and C might be on disability. Are either old enough to get SS?

In addition to post #1257 if they ever inquired as to whether Casey or Caylee had health insurance. Would Casey have gotten health insurance through a job with Universal?
