Cat Lovers Thread - 2024 and beyond

Lol, sitting on the cat food boxes. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Just scrolling through the favorite purchase of 2024 thread and thought I’d post here one of my favorite purchases - the heated cat bed! Our aging cat loves it and if not sitting on my lap choses the bed in preference to furniture - a big plus in cat hair clean up terms. Really delighted with it - it also assuages my guilt when she’s shut in the utility room for the night - she no longer minds at all .

We used to use our heating pad, and placed it under a blanket. Urchin loved it. Heated cat bed… even better!

Our kitty now has a heating pad that actually came with a nice thick fleece cover. He loves it.

He is in the doghouse now…this morning he took five ornaments off the Christmas tree and pulled one completely apart. It was one a student gave me over thirty years ago. I immediately took all the ornaments off the tree…and it’s coming down. Naughty cat!

I told my daughter ā€œi just discovered this youtube channel called 'things that annoyed Waffles this weekā€ about this grumpy cat." My D said ā€œOh, I love Waffles!ā€

Have any of you heard of this cat before? Now I can’t get enough of these little videos of how this grumpy cat rules his household.

Yes, FB shows me Waffles reels

I know I’m a little crazy, but I fell in love with a little silver male bengal kitten, and I was ready to plunk down a lot of money for him. BUT, the breeder’s waiting list got to pick first, and ā€œPhilā€ picked 2 - him and another. One could say I was saved from myself, but I’m kind of bummed out. I already have one bengal, and the ā€œlove of my lifeā€ cat form was a bengal, so I do see another in my future. BUT they have gotten really expensive.
Thanks for listening - I know it’s a very first world problem.

More complaining - Who knew finding a bengal kitten around the time we want one would be such a pain. I thought I’d identified another that would work well for us, but the answers I received upon questioning the breeder were just not OK. I expect breeder to know their TICA number, the health screening that’s been done on their cats, and have the cats currently papered (or whatever you call it to show they are truly the breed) in their name. We travel a fair amount, so only want to get a kitten when we will be around for several months, which makes getting on a breeder’s waiting list less desirable for us, but that may be the path we choose to take.

Our cat is being held hostage! He disappeared 9 days ago. Someone found him about a mile away and took him to a vet office where they scanned his microchip. But neither vet offices nor shelters will take in ā€œhealthy strays,ā€ so our little guy was sent off with the person who found him. The microchip company did reach out to me but would not tell me where our cat is or who found him or where the chip was read. So kind of useless, right? I called the microchip company back a few hours later and spoke to a different representative who did share this information with me. So I reached out to the college girl who found him and she is very slow to respond to texts, and is now asking to be reimbursed for all the items she purchased for him, and she says she may not have all the receipts.

I think her behavior is so bizarre. Most college kids I know are permanently tethered to their phones so I’m surprised it’s taking her several hours to respond to me each time. Wouldn’t you want to reunite a lost kitty with his family ASAP?!

Yeicks!

That is so weird. Yes, I would have thought they would have done whatever they can to get you reunited (both the vets and the girl).
My golden retriever once escaped from our yard, and made it to the next neighborhood. It certainly appeared like they were planning to keep the dog. I can’t remember what all they had purchased, but they didn’t ask for reimbursement. I did wind up giving the kid in the house some money - maybe $20 bucks or so, for ā€œkeeping our pet safeā€ or something like that. This was decades ago, so I can’t remember the details.
Hopefully she won’t ask for too much.

May wonder if you’re a scammer…
Hope she returns your cat soon!

Can you report her for theft if you have the microchip proof of ownership?

I think it’s more that she’s a snot who wants to keep someone’s cat. I’d be outraged. I also wouldn’t reimburse her for :poop:. Obviously, I’d get the cat in hand before I said this.

I really don’t know, but probably. But it seems like it would be hard to get the police to take it seriously.

But for now, it is moot, because he’s home again! We did pay her $210 which is outrageous I know, but she did have several receipts from Target and Petco. She bought him all kinds of toys, food, treats, flea treatment, etc. Ridiculous to spend that kind of $$ on a cat who doesn’t belong to you, but I guess that’s immaturity for you. These are UC Berkeley students BTW. So cream of the crop, but still 20 year old kids. Maybe she was hoping to keep him. Anyway our kitty was well-cared for. And now he’s home and a weight is lifted.

I hope she gave you all the items she paid for, otherwise you paid a ransom.
