Cat Lovers Thread - 2024 and beyond

Awww… black kitties.

For black kitty owners, I highly recommend the new Oscar-nominated animated movie Flow. The animated cat is so realistic and the movie is visually stunning.

When volunteering at the local Humane society years ago, I learned that I’m allergic to black cat fur. Apparently it’s an enzyme in the cat’s saliva that has the allergens. Our cat for almost 20 years had been an orange and white tabby, who gave me no problem. A year after we lost her, we tried adopting a grey and white tabby. He loved to nuzzle my chin and brush his tail across my face. My allergic reaction was so strong we had to send him back.

I once tried socializing with a Siamese at that Humane society and was in the bathroom five minutes later rinsing my streaming eyes.

I am down to one cat now. (The bed is over an air vent blowing warm air. Very popular!)

This is my handsome boy! He’s modeling his travel harness (and not terribly happy about it!)

He’s 17 years old (will be 18 in October) and quite arthritic. I just started him on a monthly biologic for his arthritis. He’s a sweet, affectionate cat who follows me around like a dog. He’s the first lap cat I’ve ever had. (And I’ve had cats most of my life–since I was 4) Such a cuddler!

There are 2 other cats in the household. Both black. Will post their pictures another time.

I heard that cat’s whiskers reflect the cat’s health. The more symmetrical and full they are, the healthier the cat.

My tabby bandit looks very healthy in this pic.

Not sure if this has been posted here… but it makes me laugh every time I see it. Billie Eilish is a hoot!

I have heard (and read) that bengals and Russian blues are better for people with allergies. They are supposedly somewhat hypoallergenic.

Yes. In a “box”.
I get in his face and say “I love you even if I can’t see you”. LOL.

We will be picking up our new kitten in less than 2 weeks.
We are going to get a new cat tree - probably this one (less than $100 at Costco)

Anyone have other recommendations for cat tree that’s not too expensive, heavy, tall (bengals love to climb to high places) and has a fair amount of sisal to scratch - that’s my current cat’s favorite part of existing cat tree.

Other favorite toys to recommend for kittens? I already have the thing where balls go around on different levels, 2 pieces of carpet you can hide toys in/cats can climb through, feather wands (and the similar thing with just a long piece of material), laser pointer, cardboard scratchers, and lots of balls/fetch toys (I will be getting new laser pointer and probably feather wand).

I have this tree. It isn’t as tall, but is very stable. I love shopping at Chewy for things like this.

Not exactly a toy but our cats go nuts over these all the time.

Thanks - just sent to my husband to order.

Thanks - I will compare. I like Costco bc there’s one fairly close by that I can return to if I don’t like it, but I did find a couple that looked good on Chewy too.

You are NOT funny :). I do fear that may be the case. I do have 2 big boxes saved as toys/forts for the little crazy guy.
