Cate School or the Webb Schools?

Hi, i am an eighth grade girl from tokyo, japan, currently boarding in california. i have applied to those two schools and got accepted to both and is really have troubles to pick one. webb schools in claremont have accepted me right away, but cate school rejected me at first, than accepted me on april 11th. my mom has already signed a contract with the webb schools, but cate school is my first choice and webb is second. yesterday, i decided i want to go to cate and sent the confirmation, but the second i sent it, i felt guilty because the director of admissions love japanese people so much and they accepted my right away. i want to ask; which school is better? i love both schools, though cate has smaller community and larger campus, which i like. on the other hand, webb has better college acceptances. can you tell me which school is better with many details please? thank you!

Don’t base your decision on college acceptance rates . . . this is FOUR YEARS of high school you’re talking about - pick the school that feels most like “home” to you.

Also, don’t worry about insulting the school you say “no” to . . . they have many, many students just waiting to take your place if you turn them down!

I’m sorry - there are so few people on this forum who have experience with both Cate and Webb. But you are not alone in trying to make a decision - see [this thread](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1123780-conflicted-cate-webb.html). There is also a member on this forum called CateParent - you might want to send him/her any questions you have about Cate.

I am familiar with both Cate and Webb (as the link above shows).
Ironic, because I got accepted from the waitlist of Cate on April 8th, and I responded with a ‘no’ on April 11th. In the end, I decided enroll to Webb Schools because I felt it was a better fit for me emotionally and capability wise. I have a close friend who will be going to Cate next year as well. Both schools are great and the decision is up to you- which school do YOU think would be a better fit? Also take into consideration what your parents say and that ranking and college matriculation aren’t everything. Pick the school you know you will be successful and happy at!

is there a reason why you chose webb? what was it that attracted you? can you tell me about it?

I chose Webb because of several personal reasons.
My parents believed Webb was the best fit school for me, because they seem a little more strict on college counseling and have tight fit schedules that suit my personality. Cate, on the other hand, gives their students a little more freedom to do what they like. Both are good traits but I felt Webb’s suited me better. Another aspect was the percentage of local students and location- Webb is more urban than Cate and has more local students, therefore more activities or events would be held off campus in spare time. Another important factor was that my other best friend also chose to go to Webb. Overall, Cate was my dream school as well but considering all the factors (SAT percentage, matriculation) my family and I felt Webb was better suited for me to be happy and get into the college I wanted. I have another friend who is also going to Cate. Her brother went there as well, and it’s a great school. Good luck on your decision!

—Cate>Webb—

In what ways? And how can you guarantee that? Yes, it’s a higher ranking on the overall list. So what? Does that make it automatically the better school?

There are no guarantees in life except Death and Taxes.

Don’t have taxes where I live. (:

just to let you know, i chose cate :)

Great decision, bluoggie. I’m visiting at Cate this weekend. It’s such a wonderful place for a young student to live, learn and grow. Congratulations.

Gratz! I got accepted by Cate and LOVED it. If I could split myself in two to go to both Cate and Choate I would definitely do it.
