Catholic Film Schools

I’m a Catholic high school student who is looking to study film in college. I’m trying to find a good Catholic school with a decent film program which will guarantee me a job in the movie/tv industry. I was considering LMU until further research revealed that LMU’s Catholic identity is practically nonexistent. Currently I’m considering Fairfield University, which has a smaller film program but is more Catholic. I’m not sure how good the academics are there, so any thoughts on that? Any suggestions?

I think you will find more Catholics and better film school prospects at schools with larger film programs.

Most every secular school has an on-campus Catholic group (often called Newman Center). Could you go to any film school and get involved in that organization?

We visited Loyola New Orleans to look at their mass comm progam and we’re very impressed with the University’s approach to creative work. Facilities were good. Classes were small and we liked that they had two professors teaching the creative classes. Not to mention New Orleans! They can’t guarantee a job, but it’s worth checking out the Digital Film program. Cost was reasonable.

John Paul Catholic University is a film and business school down by San Diego. The Catholic environment is greatly inspired by that of Franciscan University, offering daily Mass and Adoration. The school boasts a very hands-on film program, with students behind the camera as early as the second quarter Freshman year. With a year-round class system and a smaller student body, the school is unique even among Catholic universities.

Maybe DePaul?

NO film program, anywhere in the world, can ‘guarantee’ you a job in the movie/tv industry.
