Our church has confirmation classes September through May for local high school students. What do boarding school kids do to receive religious education and undergo confirmation? Are there summer courses or any online resources for this? We can’t be the only family with this problem.
I would prefer that he not have religious education during the school year. He promised to go to church every Sunday though - not sure how long that will last though.
When we needed to get our kids confirmed while they were at BS we met with our wonderful ( and very understanding ) Pastor at home and arranged summer and BS vacation instruction ( private or with their Class ) to meet the requirement. The tricky part was getting the kids to the actual Confirmation. Two out of three were confirmed alone in front of the Congregation at an earlier or later date ( can’t even tell you how much they enjoyed standing up there alone… ) and only one was able to get confirmed with their Class and enjoy all the festivities that usually follow - brunch, family gathering - whatever .
One son’s Confirmation was an actual drive-by. We had to get up right after he was confirmed ( mid service ) and leave because he had a race back at school. Thankfully, our Pastor ( a BS alum- Yay! ) understood and smoothed our exit with an explanation but it was still incredibly awkward . K2 had to change into a uni in the backseat of the car (flying down the highway) and I think we made it with only a few minutes to spare…
Even though there wasn’t time for one photograph… that day will be etched into my mind forever . My husband after dropping K2 off : Siri- Who has the best Bloody Mary’s in town?
So… If you want to have your child confirmed at home- I think it’s doable. If you don’t mind having your child confirmed at a church near the school- I know many kids who have done it that way and it’s worked out fine. Probably a heck of a lot better than K2’s Confirmation- that’s for sure.
We confirm in 8th grade…my offspring is being confirmed this coming Saturday. My husband, his sister, and I, however, were confirmed later in life as Adults because we missed it as youth (they confirmed during high school those many years ago) Just a chat with the Priest, and we were confirmed with the rest of the RCIA candidates. No classes needed. Good Luck!
I had asked this question about Choate, and have not gotten an answer (everything about choate). I know that there is a Catholic priest who comes from the Bronx every Sunday evening to serve mass, but do not have a lot more info than that.
At my son’s school ; Groton, there is a shuttle which takes the kids to,the confirmation classes at a local church. My son chose not to continue with his religious Ed, but I would bet that most BS in New England will have some sort of assistance with confirmation. Massachusetts in particular has a high percentage of Catholics and thus many of the BS in MA will have some sort of assistance.
