Cats (or Dogs?) misbehaving after Freshman leaves for college?

<p>We have 3 cats, 1 in particular that is misbehaving and now wondering if he is reacting to our son leaving for college. Anyone else experiencing pet behavior changes after their 1st child went off to college?</p>

<p>My oldest daughters cat was mad when she came home the first summer. " What do you mean you weren’t dead?"
She decided to live on the porch of a house up the street.
After we put up posters to find her, the neighbor brought her back, and after that when she disappeared, we knew where to look.
She eventually got over it.</p>

<p>Yeah. Cats bond to places and to individuals. They can’t express sadness but they can act out. </p>

<p>One of the most moving things I’ve seen was when the cat tightly bonded to one of my kids died. As he was running out of breath, he got up and walked to her bed and lay down next to it.</p>

<p>Lergnom, that’s so sweet and sad. My sons pay lots of attention to one of our cats. I do see signs she is missing them. They will nap or rest for hours, just to not bother her. She can “yell” loudly, and she does. Unfortunately I dont unnderstand her as well as they do. I’m trying… </p>
