CC ads

Well, I generally completely ignore the ads, but I’ve noticed that suddenly there are ads for high end watches popping up. INterestingly, I’ve been researching high end watches online in the last few days.

The ads are keyed to a cookie that was set in your browser when you were browsing those watch sites. You are seeing them, but others aren’t. I’ve got an ad blocker on my browser now, but before I had that I used to see a lot of ads for pet supplies after I went shopping for dog stuff online.

You can get rid of them by clearing your cache of cookies and also setting your browser to disallow third party cookies. (A 3rd party cookie is one set by a different site than the one you are visiting – such as the advertiser. )

I haven’t seen any watch ads. Are you seeing WorldVision ads?

I tend to have pretty tight controls on my browser already, and clear out all cookies every few days. I don’t have an actual ad blocker - any recommendations?
I don’t actually mind the watch ads - it’s mostly just amusing, although one ad is showing the exact model of a watch I’m interested in which makes me want to abandon my chores and drive to the mall. I’m not a big fan of shopping but after looking at watches for a graduation present, I’ve gotten all excited about getting a nice new one.

I use Firefox and installed the Adblock Plus extension. I also use the Stealther extension to block cookies.

When I started a thread on luggage, I had constant ads for quite some time, even for the very ones being discussed on the thread. It was disconcerting.

On my Facebook page, there was an ad about thyroid problems (no idea why I would get that ad) that wanted to know if I wanted a report that would explain why I feel so misunderstood. I didn’t know I felt that way and wondered what status update or post had conveyed that possibility.

Here’s how I changed the settings:

In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Privacy, Advanced, check the box next to Override Auto Cookie Handling, under 3rd party, click on blocked, click OK

we’ll see if that works

rom828 Thank you. I was with you until I go to your direction for Override Auto Cookie Handling, which I do not see. What am I missing?

Thanks SO much.
