I have only been here a short while, have made a few new friends and have learned a great deal. It is comforting to know I won’t be kicked out after our college search is over. It is a place to gain knowledge and advice from wise people who are also nice. It has helped me so much. I do find it funny that actual friends laugh at my “virtual” social circle of advisors, but I really enjoy everyone here. It is a great crossroads of smart people!

My youngest is still in college. He gets his PhD this year. My oldest, however, is 33 and I’m still here. No plans to leave. Especially that “good deal” thread.

They range from wonderful to hoping your kids avoid them. Each has its own personality. My two youngest joined a fraternity and I was glad they did. No hazing. Met great guys. Especially for my youngest, who was NOT a social creature it made college that much more welcoming.

My son is not the typical fraternity guy but one never knows once they are in college. Regarding H and CC, I can say that he is entertained by the information, but he still cannot understand how people can bond online. Loved all the great advice I’ve received so far. My husband and I did not go to school here in the US so a lot of this process is literally foreign to us.

I’ve had lots of good advise on CC! Much of concerns my home and appliances. A lot of us seemed to build a new house in the early 1990s
Currently I have a thread running about toilets…

I love CC…has given me alot of information. I used it in 2010 for my first child going into college who is now a Junior and now my daughter who is a senior in HS. Its a blessing!

My youngest child is working on her PhD (graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in 2009). I continue to try to help answer questions and calm fears of new applicants to her alma mater because I will NEVER forget how kind several people were to me when we were going through the application process.

The cafe has become a place to learn about all kinds of things and to discuss fun topics…I love it!

For the sandwich generation, I and many others have gotten wonderful support over on the Parenting Your Parents thread. I haven’t found anything like it IRL.

CC is a pretty special place. Thanks to my fellow CC’ers I have been educated, guided, humbled, shed tears of sadness and given out shouts of joy when someone shares a success. I miss the political forum even though it did get a wee bit testy from time to time.
Today I felt pride for romani as she ponders grad school offers. Something greater than all of us occured when coldad received the call for new lungs the morning after sunrise’s passing and it was very touching that he felt comfortable enough to check in with us this week.

I could go on, but as far as I am concerned CC is one gigantic caring and all knowing “help desk” and that collectively we have the ability to tackle just about any issue.

If I had 5 cents for every time my ex and current s/o said “You are on CC again? Why?”, I would have a thousad dollars. Men come and go, but CC remains.

If I can help with info about the worm’s UG , grad school, OCD/ED/Aspies/…, I’m there. I read all about MOG dresses, weddings, home improvements, great.

no other community has kept my attention. people here are bright, interesting, and so on.

Learn so much and keep up to date with knowlege of wonderful
People. S graduated 2004.2008 and 2010. H rolls eyes but is always asking what are they talking about on cc.

My name is Dragonmom, and I am addicted. Good advice from well educated people from all over and with different perspectives. Plus the number of people on this forum means that someone here has first hand experience with obscure stuff your IRL friends haven’t heard of.
Add in the fun and witty comments …what’s not to love?

Agree-- CC is a support group extraordinaire! I do not post that frequently, but I do read daily on varied topics, from aging parents to new puppies to what to do with paper in one’s home to – college concerns. I have a 2013 graduating in June and one still in college. I’ll find reasons to sneak back in even when they are done with their formal educations. And, yes, some of the most meaningful threads have been those in which a we accompany a member going through one of life’s more difficult journeys. I am always struck by the wit, intellect, generosity, and kindness of the community here.

I’ve been on CC since 2004, when DS was a Sophomore in HS, so I’m a serious addict. As parents on this site have long noted - CC is like crack. Its very hard to break away, so at this point… why bother trying to?

Still here. =)

But then I love online forums.

Has anyone checked out chowhound? Or gardenweb’s tomato growing forum?

I should try chowhound.

I like CC. I tried to quit a couple of times. To no avail.

H used to roll his eyes. Now he says, “Go ask your imaginary friends about X.” When we decided to build a house, I got a list of things to include and think about from you guys and I printed it up for next year. I told H and his hand shot out to get the list.

Secretly I think he wishes he wasn’t too cool for school. ;)

Turns out “cruisecritic” also calls itself “cc”!
http://www.cruisecritic.com/
I am doing a western Mediterranean cruise in June, first time since I was 13, and sick “as a dog”… Any help? =)

There are several meds available but most modern ships are extremely stable so you might not need them at the end. They all have side effects like dry mouth, sleepiness, etc. There are some acupressure bands called Sea Bands that help mild cases by compressing specific spot in the wrists. They can be purchased in drugstores or online.

My DH loves me fiercely, but he also thinks I’m psycho, mostly due to the amount of worrying I do about our kids and my really weird dreams, but also for my attention to CC. He cannot for the life of him understand spending even 5 minutes a day considering the opinions of total strangers on the internet, much less the amount of time I’m here.

He has no idea how many times we’ve stayed in hotels recommended here, or how many meals he has enjoyed thanks to CC, where I found out about that scholarship our D got, etc., etc., etc., etc.

And when I show up with 5 delicious meals for his Dad who recently had all his teeth removed and has subsequently become malnourished and suffering ill effects from a diet of Ensure, I’ll just nod and smile when he says “You’re so awesome; I don’t know how you do it!.” I won’t bother to tell him I got the ideas for those meals here from all the nice people on CC.

:)

So, we’re more of a secret weapon for you, then?

Nice.

^^^Ha ha, exactly. :D
