CC Class of 2019 National Signing Day

@Sapphire50 I thought Binghamton does not give merit scholarships? Is this the new state STEM scholarship? Did he apply for the merit? Thank you

@SaphireNY No, he did not apply for it and it was not a STEM scholarship. It was a merit scholarship for $8,000 which covers tuition. I don’t recall if it had a specific name. I’m at work so can’t check. He is not attending Binghamton though. He’d decided to attend Northeastern U.

Yes Thank you @Sapphire50 . Congratulations. I realize but when I asked about Merit they said Binghamton is not known to give Merit, the best I could do was the Scholars Program which I was in. Did he apply for FA at Binghamton? I am not going there either but I have a ton of friends who are and none are getting a Merit award even though a couple are also in the Scholars Program.

I assumed STEM because of RPI, that is a really nice award.

@Saphireny We submitted FAFSA to all of the schools he applied to through we don’t really quality for much financial aid because of our income - most of what we were offered were a combination of work study, subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Some of the schools did include some university grants, but mostly what he was awarded were merit scholarships. It was very hard to say no to the offer from RPI but he just didn’t feel like it was the right environment for him. He is excited about being at Northeastern and in Boston.

If you find the name of the Binghamton Merit Grant I would be curious. Yes RPI was not for me either, I did not apply in case I decided I did not want to be an Engineer

I will check the paperwork when I get home. Just don’t remember of top of my head.

@SaphireNY I see you’ve turned down a few great options. Where have you committed to?

UChicago

With a lot of matches and safety acceptances, it eventually came down to Fordham Gabelli Business School (30k/yr) and Penn State Smeall College of Business.
I’ve officially committed to Penn State! Can’t wait for next year, WE ARE!
(Still holding out hope for waitlists though tbh haha)

Calling Harvard my home.

@SaphireNY took at look at the letter regarding the scholarship and it is simply called the Binghamton University scholarship package, and it is a merit scholarship. The letter said that there were very few issued; did not say how many. It’s hard to turn down nice offers such as these, but, alas, the kid can only attend one school.

Thank you. Sounds great. Last question, in state or out? I have younger siblings that may one day apply which is why I am asking. Best Wishes at Northeastern

In state. Westchester.

Unlike most people here, my college decision was really easy. I was rejected from 7/8 ivies, and Stanford, then waitlisted at my state flagship, UT Austin.

Dartmouth College, Class of 2019! Go team CC!! :bz
