All offers of admission have to be either declined or accepted by today so in light of that, I figured we should all post our final college decision! You can also include the other offers of admission you were seriously considering but make sure to let us know which college you committed to!
If you’re hoping for an offer from the wait list, let us know where you will put down your deposit and then which school you’re waiting on.
University of Michigan- has always been 1st choice growing up cheering for UM. WAITLISTED
Cornell-Dyson WAITLISTED
Columbia- this was a “Why the hell not” application. REJECTED
Syracuse-DD attends and we love the school. ACCEPTED
Penn State- Spent lots of time there over the years loved the school spirit. ACCEPTED
Fordham- Great finance program. ACCEPTED
Rutgers- everyone should apply/support home state school. ACCEPTED
Stevens Institute of Technology- great payscale rank. Good paying jobs after graduation. ACCEPTED
Northeastern- was mailed a free app, applied knowing nothing about school. ACCEPTED
Since waitlisted at top schools he decided to look at cost of others. Withdrew from Fordham, Penn State immediately. No scholarship at Penn State and only $7k at Fordham.
Stevens never returned any of his requests for more information but did give a $22k scholarship and 4+1 program. Three emails and not one reply, removed from list.
Final decision based on cost and honors programs
Northeastern was a beautiful campus and college town but too much emphasis on co-op and not enough on anything else at welcome day. $30k scholarship and huge grant made the cost affordable but just didn’t feel right.
Syracuse is a great school but the cost was high, kept it on list just in case.
Rutgers offered huge scholarship and honors college, new residential hall, lots of great programs for honors students, accelerated MBA and Masters programs, internships, co-ops, study abroad, research opportunities, honors college mentors for entire time at Rutgers, wedged between NYC and Philly great for networking, BIG10 sports, and the diversity just cant be beat. Busses will be challenging but many have done it and survived. Rutgers is a school you need to visit and see for yourself how amazing it actually is. Glad we did, turned out to be a perfect fit.
It was hard to turn down offers from Rice (cried a little bit), Pomona, Chicago, Tufts, and Cornell, but I know that I’ll be very happy at Stanford.
And god that California weather. YES
I’ll be attending Rice this fall! Turned down Cornell, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, and a full-tuition scholarship to the U of Rochester (that was by far the hardest to turn down – the decision consumed my life for weeks :PPP). Objectively not a rational decision, but I just love everything about Rice way too much - I
Committed to UCSD although hoping to get off the waitlist for UCLA.
But go Tritons!!!
Turned down University of Pacific, CSULB, and was considering UCSB and UCI
Yes, I only applied to schools within CA because I don’t want to move anywhere else
Just noticed that I forgot to post my own decision!
It was hard turning down Dartmouth, Duke, Georgetown, and Notre Dame, but I am incredibly happy to have committed to Princeton University!!! Go tigers!
Daughter committed to Rice last week. Smith has been her number one choice for 2 years until she saw Rice. Turned down Smith, Colgate. She also seriously considered Grinnell. She was waitlisted at Dartmouth, Wellesley, and Haverford but I don’t think there is a college in the universe, wait knowing her let’s say any college on Earth, that she would chose over Rice. She might have considered Reed but Reed never, ever, gave her a decision on her application even though they acknowledged it was complete. Beware Reed admissions they are messed up. Also considered Emory but not in the final running. So off to college 1600 miles from home. She was a finalist for a full ride plus stipend to University of Mary Washington and might have considered it if the won. wanderlust Totoro!
Similar to you @robotrainbow, I was accepted to one of my top choices, but will be attending WashU this fall!
Turned down:
Rutgers-Honors College w/ full tuition scholarship
Oxford College of Emory
Tufts (the former top choice)
Alabama w/ full tuition scholarship
BU
William and Mary
Literally the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my entire life.
Turned down (would be happy attending any one of these):
Columbia (very difficult decision, parents love NYC!!!)
Duke
Rice (still love Rice!)
Northwestern
USC
Case Western Reserve
Honors College in all of these state flagships
UIUC
OSU
Purdue
Nebraska-Lincoln (full ride)
