My friend and I were recently having a discussion about colleges. She believes that CC credits are just as good as AP credits. From what I’ve heard from college students, it sounds like AP credits are better than CC credits. So my question is, what’s the difference between CC and AP credits? Is one better than the other?

It all depends on the school you’re applying to. My S took one CC course & 14 AP exams. He was given the max # of credits for all of this (only 32), but only got credit for a grade from his CC course. Unfortunately, since his major is engineering, at this school, the credit just lets him register earlier & most of the coursework doesn’t really apply against the requirements he has to meet to graduate with a degree in engineering (tho it would have been more helpful in say Arts & Sciences).

Some other schools only give credit for APs, while some schools don’t really give credit for either, but just use what you’ve taken to help “place” you when you begin classes at their school. It’s best to check with the Us you’re thinking of attending to see what they do with AP & CC credits, just so you’re not disappointed.
