The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (M.A. Shaffer, A. Barrows)

For those who want to fill their Amazon carts now, the June and July selections will be:

July: Dreamers of the Day (Mary Doria Russell)
August: Sarah’s Key (Tatiana de Rosnay)

To give everyone time to locate and read a copy of the June selection, in-depth discussion will not begin until Monday, June 15th. Until then, feel free to make generic comments regarding your progress, to post information about the authors, or to link to reviews, but no spoilers until the 15th!

After that, well have two weeks to dissect the novel, and then we will move on and repeat the process for the July and August selections.

…Of course, I meant to write above, “For those who want to fill their Amazon carts now, the July and August selections will be…” Too late to edit, but you get the idea.

Here’s a little information (from Amazon) about the June selection, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society:

I just checked my local library’s on-line catalog, and they have two copies of this book available (and the three week lending period will be perfect). Others may have the same luck. So this can be a no-cost summer activity–just right for these times!

You will all LOVE this book. I have passed my copy on long ago and it has in turn been passed to others. Wish it would find its way back to me as it is the perfect book to savor in the summer…

I read “Guernsey Literary…” and loved it. I had checked it out of the library, but was planning to buy the paperback to give to my mom. I will happily re-read it and look forward to joining the discussion. Thanks Mary13!

Can you title the threads by book so when you get to a new book, people who have read it can join in? I tried Guernsey and couldn’t get into it but read Sarah’s Key a while back and would love to discuss it. It was moving to me as my family was in France during the war and in hiding but I did feel it was predictable.

I’ll have to get an airport copy…and hope for some internet access on the first one. I leave in a week and 1/2 and will be out in the “big woods” of Minnesota until I hit the Bay Area and access at the end of June. But I will be with you in spirit until then…this is good.

Large print is a great suggestion for folks looking for the book at their libraries. Also, there is an audio book version and a couple of different ebook versions that may be available for those on waitlists. Some libraries let you check out electronic versions of books (audio or ebook) from your home computer.
