What is DS or DD? I believe parents are referring to their college bound children.

Dear son, Dear daughter

It could mean several things depending on the context of using it. That being said, DS or DD, usually refers to dear son, or dear daughter; DS or DD sometimes refers to dumb son or dumb daughter. I guess you could substitute any word for the D, but I suspect most people are using it as ‘dear’.

You also might see DH (dear or dumb husband) or DW (dear or dumb wife).

I’ve never assumed it meant “dumb”.

I always use it as " darling daughter or son"

I agree - never saw an instance where “dumb” would make sense.

Personally, I just use S. But the extra D has always stood for Dear, according to my understanding.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking the D was for dependant son/daughter. Now I know.

Although it is not really used in this manner on CC, in our neck of the woods, the most prevalent use of DS and DD was for Darling D or S, but it was not in an endearing way. It was mostly used to point to entitled kids who showed up with the typical well-off helicoptering parent at sporting events, and was a pejorative term to describe the attempts of parents to secure a spot on teams or playing time via financial “support.”

CC’s use is a LOT more charitable!

What is OP?

Original poster. It refers to the person who started the thread.

“fit” is a big CC lingo, “live below your means” is another one, and “I am so frugal I drive a car with 200000 miles.”

^^^^lol, so true.

Thanks again! I love this community!
