S just called after a few months of infrequent communication, spent the afternoon with D having pedicure, which transformed my hardworking feet into happy feet, and went for a long walk as darkness fell. Made an old favorite dish for supper with a large volume of bargain mushrooms from my grocery store. Content!
@Marian ME TOO. I was so happy when The Obsession popped up. I’d forgotten when it was coming out, but had it on pre-order.
And I thought going to the movies would be a happy thing, but Into the Woods, was just not it. Wish I’d stayed home and read my Kindle!
(but it was nice to drag DH out of the house anyway).
Ds2 just called, and we talked for an hour about Harry Potter and Buzzfeed lists and Brian Williams and his study-abroad plans and a third work-study job and a lot about the student govt campaign he’s working on. It’s been weeks since we’ve had a long talk about just stuff. I am really happy right now. And what he doesn’t know is that tomorrow he’ll be receiving a big basket of fruit and cheeses and nuts and crackers from me. So I expect another phone call!
The sun was shining here and it was beautiful! Glistened on the snow and ice.
Happiness in my home. A happy conversation with a child who had been giving me fits previously. Another child who is settled with his college choice. Pinterest.
Doing something productive with my large fabric stash – making quilts for a women’s shelter.
My stepdad called a couple of hours ago. This man was married to my Mom for 45 years. He took on her three very young kids with no hesitation, was a great second Dad, spent 15 years taking care of my Mom after devastating strokes, refusing to put her in a nursing home, thereby totally limiting his own freedom to come and go as he pleased in spite of great health and vitality, until she died two years ago.
Stepdad called to share the news that he proposed to his lovely lady friend, a 60 something widow, who is very nice, very slim and healthy, who shares his interests, and seems to love him very much. I see some good years ahead for both of them, traveling, exercising as they love to do (he was a former track star), living life, treasuring each day.
That made me happy.
My D who’s a college freshman texted me this morning to say she misses having coffee in the morning with me.
I felt happy all day that she was thinking about me
Happy today because I talked to my youngest dd who lives in China and also am happy because my grandson is visiting this weekend. Today was also special as I didn’t work and surprised my dh with a lunch excursion.
My sister, who lives so far away, is visiting for more than two weeks! D2 and D3 are coming home tomorrow for a few days so we will all be together. This makes me very happy.
Also, I discovered a new ice cream flavor - lemon doberge cake - that tastes like the velvety sweet essence of happiness.
Today, we have a LOT of happiness! Walgreens refunded the price of our crutches INCLUDING the tax and will submit forms to insurer and then we will send them a check for the nominal difference. At TMobile, the young salesman gave us FREE Sim cards, so we can switch from Sprint to them and have our phone bill drop from 225 down to $100 plus taxes, MINUS a federal govt discount since S is a federal employee.
My upper body strength is increasing greatly because I am using my crutches correctly, with my arms, so I will be stronger as my ankle heals. My H & D are wonderful to me while I convalesce. I even got lovely strawberries at Costco for only $6.99 for 2 pounds!
My relatives let me take a sower in their lovely bathroom without walls and with a nice built in bench and hand-held showerhead. It was so easy to get in and out and navigate without worrying about banging into walls. It is wonderful having a relative with such a fabulous home that they freely share!
@HImom YAY!! Saving money, Strawberries in winter, AND being able to shower alone without help. Happy for you. ( the showering thing was a PITA for me. Crummy shower with no privacy and a big lip to get into it…hubby was so sweet and helpful, but honestly I felt so awful trying to look graceful getting in and out of the shower while undressed, and on crutches. Not a pretty sight
Yes, it is the little victories that mean a lot and restore dignity. They have generously offered the use of their shower as long as I need it. The shower was big enough that H came in and hung out and stacked all my stuff on a chair and handed things to me as I needed them. He’s quite protective, as he doesn’t want me to injure any other body parts and prolong the healing process.
We are going to be activating the OnePlus One phones and trying and learning a new operating system now. It should be an intersting journey, as we have used IPhone5 for the past 2 years. Thankfully we are in this together, H, D, S and me, so I can bug them when I have any questions and problems.
Had a nice chat with S. He’s going out of country this weekend. He bought a plane ticket for $150 roundtrip and couldn’t resist! He’s happy we’re happy. D will be around for another week and is helping out while I am in recovery mode. She and H are keeping one another calm.
I work at a church and today I had the chance to help some people in very meaningful ways. It’s not every day that a family asks for a bagpiper to play at a funeral in full traditional dress, and I was able to find someone who could do that. I also helped get the process started for a young man we’re helping to get affordable housing so he can stop couch surfing. Sometimes my job makes me very happy.
Then my older D called and needed some “Help, Mom, I’m sick!” advice and I cheered her up, then later H and I shared a meal grilled outside on the first almost-sunny day in days and days. All and all, not too bad!
Cats sleeping on my legs made me happy. Squeezing in a little run outside will make me happier.
This morning, a fresh peach diced up in my cottage cheese is making my taste buds happy.
Peaches ??? Where have you found peaches ???
I was just saying that I can’t wait until summer when they are plentiful. I put them in my juicer since I love the taste , but not the texture,
I was happy to find sweet cherries and blueberries to use
At our local produce store. Not local peaches obviously - I’m in Ohio! They were $1.99 a pound but well worth that burst of flavor for breakfast!!!
asparagus season!!
Chocolate always makes me happy. Maybe I’ll have chocolate covered pretzels for a snack later on today. My daughter just happens to be selling them for a fundraiser.
