So I have a laptop grant and havent ordered my laptop yet. But I was looking at the Macbooks and saw they were actually cheaper. Why are the CCI laptops are so much more expensive. B/c of my grant I was thinking about the R400, but it is more expensive than a mac? What makes these CCI laptops so great(besides tech support) bc i dont know alot about computers so Im a little confused. Also is the R400 a good choice bc i dont really see the need of upgrading.

…eh, they really aren’t THAT expensive… it’s just the warranty that u get… it’s like a 300 or 400$ warranty i think…
and R400 is a good choice if u don’t know much about computers… (i.e. you probably won’t notice a difference unless you know about computers)

The cci laptops are really expensive and they’re not worth it in my opinion. You can get a much better laptop for the same price WITH a similar warranty. I love my macbook and I don’t like cci laptops. I didn’t get a grant so I can’t say what I would have done if I had gotten one, but for anyone who has to pay for their laptop I always would recommend not going cci.

oh yeah, i’d agree with pkp20, but since u got a grant, go with the R400…
Also, what mac are you looking at?.. in my experience, macs have always been overpriced…

I was given the grant for the R400, but IMO it’s too bulky to carry around in a bag in addition to all of the other books I’m going to need on a daily basis.

I went by the Ram shop the other day, and looked at the X200 / X200 Tablet, and I’m pretty sold on getting the tablet at this point.

The only thing that’s weird is there doesn’t seem to be any way to opt out of the software stuff. The price listed at the Ram shop for the X200T was like, ~1500-1700… I can’t remember exactly.

But when I try to order it online, the base price starting out is over 2000! Meaning, I’d have to supply an additional ~$800ish if I want to get it.

Considering the rumors about the new Apple tablet that’s supposed to be coming out for somewhere around that price, I’m not sure if it’s worth it honestly.

Before you get a tablet think about if you really want it and why. For most people chances are you’ll never use the handwriting feature and you will get tired of the small screen(if it is your only computer on campus).

As far as price, it would only make since that at the ram shop the price listed doesn’t include certain software, warranty and cci tech support. The online price would be including all of this.

Yeah, but I don’t want any of that. I should be allowed to opt out of all of that.

As far as using the tablet… I’ll be taking Organic Chemistry where I have to practice tons of reactions, I was planning on getting a whiteboard to lug around, but this way I wouldn’t need that.

I received a laptop grant last Monday. Does anyone know how I use that to order my computer?

You can order it through http://studentcentral.unc.edu … Just click on the link at the bottom that says “Order CCI Laptop”

yeah ^^ near the end there is a place that asks how your paying and you can check the grant option…
