Celebrate Recovery

Does anyone here have knowledge of or experience with Celebrate Recovery? I’m just wondering how you think it compares to other 12-step programs. Aside from the fact that it’s specifically Christian, that is. Is it better for a particular area of addiction than others? (When I think of areas of recovery I think of alcohol, drugs, anger, codependency, gambling, and sexual compulsions. There may be others I’m not thinking of.)

Don’t know anything about it but I see it advertised at a church next to my library. From the large banner it looks like it meets once a week. My concern is that as a fellowship it might not be as large or as available when someone needs it versus a fellowship with a much larger membership and more meetings.

Really, just one person? (Thanks, mom60.) I’m bumping this once just to see if anyone else chimes in.

I had a reply worked out but lost it. Being Christian it likely relys on the external locus of control of religion. I doubt they address trying to have an internal locus of control that doesn’t need faith in anyone outside of oneself. Those prone to the addictive behaviors are probably willing to substitute the religion’s social network and support for the worse behaviors. The only concern is if they lose their faith they lose the reasons to remain sober et al. It would be preferable to acquire a self worth/sufficiency independent of religion. No church wants me to come and criticize them or their approach. It wouldn’t work for me, but the crutch of the religion may help some and be better than the alternative.
