Hi - we are 6 women meeting up from California to Connecticut looking for recommendations for an all inclusive resort for a vacation in summer. We’ll probably only be there for 4 nights. Cost is a factor. Looking for a place to enjoy the sunshine, have a couple drinks (no big drinkers in our group) and visit with each other. Water sports or other activities are a plus. Good food is nice too. Any suggestions?
Contact a travel agent (not the big on-line ones like Expedia, but a real person). Yes, we still do exist in this internet age.
I’m not sure there are ‘All Inclusives’ in the United States. Dominican Republic would probably be the most cost effective
On the other hand, you could find a gorgeous vacation rental somewhere warm and that can save a lot of cost since you could eat breakfast, etc in the house and really relax
It doesn’t have to be in the US - I’m hoping someone can share all inclusive they’ve been to that they would recommend. A vacation rental is a consideration but we were really looking for a spot where everyone could just enjoy themselves - no cooking or cleaning duties
We have been to many all inclusives in Mexico and the Caribbean. Our favorite is Valentin Maya Imperial in the Riviera Maya area. Close to the Cancun airport, beautiful resort with great food, all adult and a good value for the money. It’s the only resort we’ve repeated and brought friends back to with rave reviews. Book a package with apple or funjet for a fun hassle free vacation. It may be a longer flight for the California contingent though. I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Windjammer Landing in St. Lucia is lovely. Not sure what it’s like in the summer. We visited in December. There are some large villas that could accommodate all of you.
I like Grand Palladium Riviera Maya, incredible deals for first time couples. Probably normal prices for singles.
I second the travel agent rec. You will get excellent personal care and possibly a lower rate than you could book on your own. We used one for a 10 day trip to France two years ago. Had to book in a hurry and didn’t want the hassle. We ended up with ideal flights and a lovely hotel for bargain prices. I’ve since recommended the agent to friends, who were all pleasantly surprised that such a service existed.
Take a cruise! That is my favorite way to vacation.
I have been here and it is nice, but very quiet.

I have also stayed at one of their resorts in Italy.
Again, I am a big fan of Club Med for value and FUN, especially for (young) ladies celebrating a special event.
I highly recommend the one at Cancun. My whole family may be going there next Dec before xmas.
If I were planning a trip during the summer, I think I’d be looking at someplace where the heat and humidity wouldn’t kill me. I love tropical/warm beaches, but the older I get, the less I’m able to tolerate the heat.
I think I’d love to stay at a resort somewhere up north where I could enjoy the long hours of daylight and cooler temps. Cool evenings in the mountains are wonderful. Would something by a northern lake work? Montana? Idaho? Northern beaches like OR, WA, Maine or Canada?
I have no specific resorts to recommend because we’ve never done an all-inclusive vacation in the states, but I just thought I’d throw that out there.
We just visited Waterton and Glacier National Parks in July. They were lovely and a nice temperature. We didn’t have all-inclusive but it was a truly memorable area and many lodging options.
If you are a Costco member, then look at their travel packages. We went to an all inclusive in the Dominican Republic recently and had a very good experience. We learned that Costco sent this particular resort a ton of business so the employees treated the ‘Costco guests’ very well. (we had wrist bands and the color was the clue that we were ‘costco guests’). Also, their pricing was better than we could have gotten on our own.
Cancun is generally the least expensive and easiest to get to with NS flights from both the east and west coasts. Secrets The Vine is my favorite on that strip but can be pricey. Also stayed at GR Solaris and The Royal. Playa Del Carmen is also a lot of fun to vacation in but there are only a few AI within walking distance of 5th so be careful when you look at them. I like to do AI only if I can easily leave the resort and walk around the town(s) a bit. I don’t like feeling as though I am prisoner of an AI.
OK, I have to say it: How about Disney World? You can be as active as you choose. The resorts-- in particular the Moderate and Deluxe resorts-- are gorgeous!! We tend to stay at the Epcot resorts-- in July we’ll return to the Beach Club. We can walk to Epcot and we take the boat to Hollywood Studios (though some prefer the walk.) There are lots of dining choices. Transportation is taken care of from the time you check your bags at your home airport until you arrive back.
I know it’s not everyone’s choice, but at age 59 I still love it.
Plan B-- would you consider a cruise to Bermuda? Bermuda is another of my most favorite destinations!! It’s gorgeous, has very very little poverty, they love Americans and we share a language. You can find cruises that leave from NY, NJ or Baltimore.
If you are not looking for tropical, you might like the all-inclusive Woodloch in Pennsylvania. It has delicious meals, shows, water sports, tons of other sports and activities. I went there several years ago with family and everyone from the grandparents to my two year old niece had a great time.
It is also nice because there are so many choices there, both indoor and out, that rain does not ruin a day.
The Royal Playa Del Carmel is right off of 5th Ave. just walk off the property and you are on 5th to enjoy being off property. It was great.
We went to Disney World once in June. I have only two words from my point of view…NEVER AGAIN!
Sure…no crowds…but it was hot…and humid, and generally not fun to be outdoors.
Be careful of island cruises in the Atlantic in the summer…it’s storm season!
I always advocate for this in the summer months - consider Michigan. I don’t know specific “resorts” - maybe someone can chime in - but places like Traverse City, Leelanau peninsula are BEAUTIFUL, warm but generally not super hot weather and may be more affordable than coastal locations. GREAT food. Lake Michigan beach towns are gorgeous!

Another vote would be for Toronto/Ontario. Passports would be necessary.
