Cell Phone Do Not Call List

Does anyone know if this is true…

Do Not Call registry
ATTENTION

JUST A REMINDER… 31 days from today, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls.

YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS… These telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end up costing you money in the long run.

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:
888/382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a
minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years.

Or you can register on line at: National Do Not Call Registry www.donotcall.gov

I have registered and still get occassional calls at home and on my cell. Half the time it is a pre-recorded message without any reference to the actual company calling unless you listen through to the end.

The folks at my local Verizon store said Verizon is not releasing their lists of numbers to the telemarketing companies. I have registered all of our phones anyway. Since registering our land lines, I don’t get nuisance calls except from companies doing surveys, but the name shows up on the caller id, so I can choose not to answer.

It is only partially true, but mostly urban myth. Check out Snopes.com for more info.

Yeah this has urban legend written all over it. Kind of like the 5 cent an e-mail tax that was “proposed” in Congress.

Sigh! Y’all…
