Cell phone question (help an int'l out)

If I bring my unlocked triband Nokia 3500 classic down to Texas with me in the summer, will I be able to get a SIM card from Verizon/AT&T/T-Mobile (I only know of those three that offer GSM coverage in the US, but do tell me if there are others) and just pop it into my phone? Will the service provider decide to “lock” my phone to their company?

I’m not a heavy cell phone user so I just plan on going pay-as-you-go/prepaid. Plus, if I got a monthly plan I’ll be paying for it for about 3 mths a year when I’m not even in the country…

Thanks!

You won’t be able to get on Verizon because they still use analog.

AT&T uses sim cards though, so that’s fine.

Okay, thanks for the heads up. Wikipedia says Verizon has GSM but I guess it’s not entirely true…

Will I be locked in and have to use AT&T’s pay as you go for the next 4 yrs or so?

Verizon is CDMA.

@randomgrandeur: Yup, I’ve established that, thanks.

But T-Mobile and AT&T are GSM right?

Yeah they are.
