I’m going to Europe this summer and I would like to have a cell phone there. I know that you can just put in a sim card (prepaid) with a certain amount of money/minutes on it. with that sim card u get a phone number.

question

i know the phone has to be unlocked, but when you put multiple sims cards (when you use your minutes up), do you get a new number every time?

You can go into any phone store (T-mobile, Vodafone, O2, etc) and buy a prepaid SIM card. When you run out of money you can go back to any store like that and with cash or credit card buy more credit. On the receipt there is a number you put into the phone that activates the credit. Or something like that. My brother uses a prepaid one, I’ve never used one. But it sounds simple enough. I’m sure the people at the store can explain it better.

Really? I thought they looked terrible in the game against Poland.

would they happen to sell prepaid SIM cards at the airport?

also when i go to belgium will i have to buy ANOTHER sim card (with a new number) b/c i am in a different country than where i bought the original SIM card (in france)?

thanks

well germany is 2-0-0 so i guess thats good…they advance to next round :)

If the SIM card only covers Germany, then you’d have to buy another one in Belgium. I’m leaving for a tour in China tomorrow, and I bought a SIM card to use for the next two weeks. They will probably sell prepaid SIM cards at the airport (I’m not sure about your local airport, but the airport of your destination should have them).

You could use the same SIM card, but you’d have to pay more per minute. There would be roaming charges involved.

I’d get one in France and one in Belgium. That’s probably the best deal price wise. The airport should definitely have them. Look at kiosks for the phone company logo, that means they sell their products.

You can add different SIMs, but the phone must be unlocked. In many European countries, you can buy a cheap cell phone that is not locked to a network and switch SIMs when you need to.

i was able to call t-mobile and have them “unlock” my phone. so now i can take my US phone to europe and use it there. btw how much does it cost per minute in europe?

The cost per minute depends on the service provider. I don’t know about where you’re going, but for T-Mobile in Germany the pre-paid rate per minute is 39 cents, but there is another one for 5 cents a minute. So I think it widely varies. I’d get on the internet and look up service providers in the countries you are going to and figure out the per minute cost. It’s listed in the tariff description.
