celluar service

Hey! I was wondering if anyone could tell me what celluar service to get in Gambier, Ohio. Cingular is the best down here in Kentucky…

Verizon is the only carrier with adequate coverage in the area. I live in Apple Valley (about 5 miles from KC) and have had verizon for probably about 8 years. Its really the only option here…

yeah, go with Verizon but even then dont expect great coverage and get used to making all of your phone calls either by a window or outside.

i was even considering…discontinuing my plan… i cant imagine why i would NEED a cell phone…hmmmm…ill prob have my mac alot of the time anyway…who knows

Yeh, I don’t have to worry about changing service providers. Go Verizon! Still, you are in the middle of nowhere so I assum works good is a relative term.

Kenyon really only has one service… Verizon… if it even works. Most of the time my DD used to call me on her cell phone then have me call her back bc she lost calls so often. Also, according to her, using a cell phone on campus will cause other students to stare you down. Unlike almost all other campuses, using cell phones outside your dorm are really considered rude at Kenyon. So a word to the wise, don’t even consider using one on Middle Path!

is anyone else considering not bringing a cell phone to kenyon?

^ I’m bringing my cell phone to Kenyon. I hear the long distance services that the school/Gambier offers are terrible and expensive.

However, I did buy a telephone for my dorm to take advantage of free local calling.

Bring a cell for long distance. Verizon added a tower in Gambier this year so calls rarely drop anymore. I was still getting 2 bars max when inside, but at least I did not have to redial too often.

Hey musaka! You’re from Hopkinsville? I’m from Morehead in Rowan County, it’s near Lexington. I’m going to Kenyon next year too. Cingular just doesn’t have coverage at Kenyon, but when we stayed at the inn in town, one of the people said that they expected to have Cingular available around the fall. Not sure if that is just a rumor though, but it sure would be nice. I’m going to have to have two cell phone services because we don’t have Verizon here!

We get free local calling? Hm, maybe I should bring a phone then so I can call the other dorms. Still, I’m taking my Verizon cell phone for long distance and still it’s free to other Verizon phones so yey! I like how they added a tower… yey two bars inside that is kinda like my house so i should be alright. nice to know though.

Don’t worry about bringing a regular “in-home” phone for your dorm room unless you want something cordless or special features. The school provides you with a basic phone for on campus and local calls.

^ The school provides you with a basic phone? Damn. I wasted money!

Probably an old fashioned rotary phone though…

True. Now I’ll be able to seduce people with my sexy panasonic phone.

I have Cingular, and I had to get a new phone a couple of weeks ago. I had heard that rumour that Cingular was putting up a tower this summer too, and before I signed a new contract w/ them I wanted to make sure that was true. I called the admissions office, and the lady I spoke with pretty much guaranteed me that Cingular would work come fall. So here’s to hoping!
