cellular carrier

What is the best cell phone carrier in Seattle? Verizon? T-Mobile? Qwest? Cingular? Any particularly bad with lotsa dropped calls etc.? thanx

Any good operator/service provider that will work either on GSM 800/1800/1900???

I use Cingular. When I started at UW back in 2001, their coverage was still spotty. Nowadays I think Cingular has pretty good coverage around Seattle. As with any other carrier, there are going to be certain spots where you will not be able to get a signal.

I think Cingular uses 850/1900, and T-Mobile uses only 1900(but check on that). Are you planning on bringing a phone from overseas to use??

isn’t Qwest based in seattle? which company uses sim card?

To my knowledge…t-mobile and cingular…I’m not sure but I know verizon doesn’t uses sim cards. Anyone able to retrieve me a sony ecrisson k790a overseas?

You can buy overseas phones from online retailers and on eBay. Here is one of them.

Yes i already use a windows mobile 5 pda based triband phone. So i would like to continue using that phone.
Its an o2 atom.
Thanks for the link anyways

If you plan on using Cingular service, your triband phone may/may not work on the Cingular network because some Cingular areas are on the 850 mhz exclusively. I think you would be fine on T-Mobile though.

Does anyone know about Verizon? I am on the east coast where verizon is pretty much the only company used, but I can’t remember if my phone worked on campus when I was in Seattle.

Verizon coverage is good any time the 3 Verizon phones in our family have been on campus. No complaints anywhere in the Seattle area with Verizon for us. T-Moblie was excellent also last spring. Can’t use T-moblie at a new rural area home, so we had to drop them, but they were fine in the city and all along I-5.

Verizon works well on-campus for us too, as well as the surrounding city and suburbs.

t-mobile hasn’t given me any problems while on campus

me niether

T-Mobile USA is headquartered in Seattle, and is generally cheaper than Cingular on most plans, so that’s what I would recommend. I’ve had good service with them while on campus.

They ought to have good service around Seattle since it’s in their backyard.

I also recommend T-Mobile… the US headquarters is actually about 5 minutes from my home! They are definitely the ‘value’ cell phone company and their phones are relatively up to date.

seems like great reactions from customers of T-Mobile and cingular in the UW area. sort of like bank of america having the most atms on campus, branches nearby on the ave, etc. any opinions of Sprint or Nextel or Virgin Mobile, just for argument?

so it seems that verizon and t-mobile offer pretty good services in seattle…
how bout cingular…

cingular is just as big as t-mobile around here. a lot of people seem to be moving away from sprint, i don’t know why.

very few, if any, people use virgin mobile up here.
