Cellular Phone Service

Can anyone evaluate or rank cell service in Lewisburg? Specifically, how well does Sprint work there?

Thanks!

Bumpppppp!

Here’s another similar type of thing to worry about.

What banks are near your house and also in Lewisburg? - with no transaction fees

Sovereign, First national, M and T bank
Sovereign has an ATM in the CVS

Sorry - I can’t help you with cellular service

We checked out cell phone service and I know that T-Mobile has really lousy service. We switched S to Verizon b/c the students we talked to all seemed to have Verizon.

Does anyone know about AT&T Service at Bucknell?

I would have your S/D email their RA for questions about cell service. The RA info is on their myBucknell page.

My D just graduated. She was an RA for three years. She said unless the training is different this year, RAs are not informed about different cell phone service. They would only have their personal experience. Even if training changed this year, the RAs for this year (returning and new) haven’t gone through training yet.

My D’s experience is that cell phone service is generally good. She had AT&T. She had some trouble in basements of buildings and Swartz. Swartz houses a lot of first year students. The cinder block walls of Swartz sometimes interfered with service.

Just to clarify, I was only thinking that the RA would have personal experience about coverage, and since myBucknell gives everyone the “friendly faces” info, I thought that starting with the RA would be helpful. S has contacted his for questions about the residence hall set-up and she was very responsive.

D is a rising senior. She has AT&T and has had no problems. Several of her friends have Verizon and have had no issues either. Don’t know about other cell service.

As for banks, I am always confused why, in this day and age of electronic banking, anyone feels the need to have a bank in town. I had no desire to open an account (and pay fees to) Swineford or other banks I’d never heard of (the banks there are probably big in PA, but we’re from the west coast and I’d never heard of them). I transfer allowance to her (as little as I can get away with, but well more than I’d like to admit) electronically; we now bank at the same bank so it is particularly easy, but I used to do it when she was with a different bank. She picks just goes to the local ATM (I’m pretty sure there is an ATM at the student center). You may have to pay that $3 fee, so ATM (so withdrawals should be minimized), but you’d probably do that anyway since they are going to use the ATM on campus rather than go into town more often than not. She works on campus and they direct deposit her check. In other words, in 3 years on campus she has never had a need to walk into a bank!

Yay, sounds good for At&T.

As far as the banks, probably people are just trying to figure out if there is a local ATM they are affiliated with. I personally hate paying any fees for a low withdrawal, and have another kid in a PA school…so I just send him cash in the mail, or tell him if he’d going to withdraw, make it rare and large.

Why not have your kid open up an account that has a local branch at Lewisburg - M and T or Sovereign bank. Then they will pay no fees while they are there.
