Central America travel

My college daughter is planning a one week trip with another girl. They’ve narrowed their choices to Belize, Panama and Costa Rica. Does anyone know which countries/areas are safer and which to avoid? Also, any advice on “can’t miss” areas and “must do’s” would be appreciated.

As a matter of fact, I am anxiously awaiting the return of my daughter, who should be landing in a half-hour, from a week long trip to Costa Rica. She travelled with another 20 year-old girl and a boy. I think there are lot of beautiful places to visit in CR, they planned their trip with low expenses and relaxation in mind. They flew to San Jose and were picked up at the airport by the hostel people. The next day they took a bus to Puerto Viejo where they stayed in a hostel for 5 days before returning to the original hostel for the night before their flight. Our cell phones didn’t work so communication depended on erradict internet connections and expensive international pay phones. I think she had fun, but with the sketchy communications we were mostly just focusing on safety. I know they took long jungle bike rides, swam in warm Carribean waters, did a zip-line, went to a reggae dance party. Ah!! She just called-she landed! phew. I’ll send more details tomorrow if she has anything to add! Good Luck!

Thanks so much. My daughter called last night and they DID choose Costa Rica…She’s going to book the airline tickets today. I’d really appreciate hearing your daughter’s thoughts and impressions. Welcome home to your D. It’s great that they have these wonderful adventures, but it’s even better to have them safely back home.
