Central coast California to Portland Oregon

<p>We have a wedding this summer in Portland. We plan on driving. Would like to make a trip out of it. I am looking for camping ideas either along the way or near Portland.

<p>My daughter and her bf went to Beverly Beach for spring break, which is outside of Newport Oregon.</p>

<p>That should be awesome. I know from prior research there are websites devoted to taking the coast highway all the way. </p>

<p>Champoeg State Park is lovely (about thirty miles south of Portland)–along the Willamette.
Multnomah Falls (about twenty miles east of Portland) is lovely and there is camping nearby in another state park.
My daughter has camped in many of the state parks on the Oregon Coast, if you want to drive up or down the coast as part of your trip. My sister and her son spent several days camping in the Redwoods north of Eureka.</p>

<p>Our favorite Oregon campgrounds are Champoeg, Nehalem Bay near Manzanita, south of Cannon Beach, and Fort Stevens on the coast near Astoria. We stated at Beverly Beach on one trip; the kids enjoyed it. Bandon is beautiful.
The campgrounds are reservation only during the summer months and they do fill up. If you’re traveling mid-week something might be available. Weekends - well, for the better places, you have to pray for a cancellation. </p>

<p>Near Bandon (sort of)… Sunset Bay State Park. Nice little campground and peaceful beach. Nice botanical garden (run by the state) within walking distance to the campground. Sunset is just outside of Charleston.</p>

<p>Champoeg is close enough to Portland, if you wanted to make that the place to stay. There are plenty of campgrounds east of Portland in clackamas county.</p>

<p>Thanks. The weekend would be spent at a hotel in Portland for the wedding. It looks like several of the campgrounds suggested have availability prior to the wedding.
Dmd77- I am considering camping in the Redwoods near Eureka. I need to get a map out and figure out how many days we have. I am excited. I have never been to Portland.
adding- we will be tent camping so prefer a campground with not a lot of RVs</p>

<p>Any opinions on the campgrounds in Humboldt Redwoods state park?
We wanted to stay at Elk Prarie state park but they don’t have any availability.</p>
