Certifications

Well,on the commonapp and on the supp i listed some awards, ec’s. Hoewever, i did not send to the school the certifications certifying that they are valid. For example i mentioned that i have qualified for the AIME on the supp.Should i send in the diploma certifying it?Do adcoms generally ask your principal/counselor to verify the ec’s-awards that you list on the application?appreciate your help.

^ It’s fine… no certifications are required. No… they generally don’t ask for verification… It’s a moral thing… and plus… the consequences are so great (diploma taken away after application, Yale lawsuit in court for fraud) if people lie for so little gain on their application.

But that’s not your case… so you’re fine. No certifications needed!

I think that unless they feel something’s sketchy, the admissions officers won’t ask for certification.

i second the above

I was reading a book about Princeton’s Admission and they’ve actually had cases where if they find something really fishy, they’ll call to verify. Like for example, a kid got a perfect 5 on his chemistry AP exam but never took a chemistry class in high school. When they called the school though, they found out that the kid actually taught himself chemistry. If Princeton does it, I’m sure Yale does too at times. But probably only to applicants who they’re in some way interested in…

It’s just so easy for an admissions officer to shoot off an email or phone call to a counselor to verify stuff. I can’t imagine a student thinking they could fudge a darned thing on their app.
