CGS/Chance

i’m a junior looking at colleges and was wondering if applying to CGS directly will improve my chances of getting into BU. my major is undecided, anyway

as for chances:

male, california, private school (sends many grads to top schools)

gpa: 3.5 W (i know)

sat: have yet to take it

rank: school doesn’t rank

ECs: marching and symphonic band - 1st chair alto saxophone, saxophone section leader, 2nd chair clarinet, hoping to play bassoon next year

jazz band - baritone saxophone

key club - historian

film club - founder and president

newspaper

core team (basically a church group that leads the parish’s youth group, organizes events, teaches classes, etc.)

100+ hours of community service

as a freshman, i held a job at my old parish as secretary to pay for tuition and such. not sure if that’s worth including.

APs:
sophomore - AP Art History (3)
junior - AP Psychology, AP English Language (have yet to take exams)
senior - planning on AP US Government, AP English Literature, AP Music Theory, Honors Anatomy

i know that’s not a ton of information, but, like i said, i’m still a junior, so i’ll see how things unfold from here. thanks

applying directly to cgs does not increase your chances of being accepted. if you are rejected from any other school then you’re automatically considered for cgs. unless you want to go to cgs for the program, don’t apply for it, it has NOTHING to do with improving one’s chances.

i see. thanks for the help!

on a side note, anybody mind chancing me?

Just give it time and do the best you can right now it’s too early to tell. whether we like it or not to a certain extent it’s still really just a numbers game. although it is a wide range because of so many variables there are still numbers as in test scores that will not get you in no matter what and there are numbers that will guarantee you a spot. so you have to see where you fall in that aspect and then factor everything else in. take a few practice tests…even the ones you buy in the store if timed and under the right conditions can give pretty accurate idea of where you stand…

there is an advantage to applying straight to cgs. say for instance you apply to cas, if they dont want you they could put you on a waiting list for cas instead of admitting you to cgs… if you think cgs is the right program for you, then apply there first. with your gpa, it seems like the right choice to apply to cgs.
