CGS? What does it stand for?

What do all these abbreviations stand for??? Are they the schools we could apply to at BU???

(I feel dumb asking this since BU is my second choice)

College of General Studies

Given that BU is one of your top choices, I would certainly look into the different school abbreviatons to best understand the programs and majors. Each school is offers its own unique experience within the overall university so definitely familiarize yourself with those that most interest you. Here are a few of the schools off the top of my head.

CAS- College of Arts and Sciences
SMG- School of Management
COM- Collge of Communication
SHA- School of Hospitality Administration (My school!)
CFA- College of Fine Arts
CGS- College of General Studies
ENG- College of Engineering
SAR- Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences
SED- School of Education

These are pretty much all the major schools at BU. There are a few more but you can find all this information on BU’s website.

Hey thanks a lot for all those abbreviations along with their meanings. And I know, I have got to do a lot more research and look more into BU if it is one of my top choices. I was so caught up with my first choice school and I had dedicated all my time to it that I had not bothered to pay attention to any other schools. But now that my application has already been submitted to my top dream school, I can now concentrate on BU.

Thanks again for the help.

Which school is your top choice?

My dream school to which I applied Early is Stanford. But most likely, I’ll be rejected (my SAT scores are perhaps the weakest part of my application, especially for early Stanford).

Aww, well best of luck with Stanford. If you need any info on BU, leave any question on the board here or private message me and I’ll be sure to answer very quickly.

If you go on the BU web site you can click on each of these individual colleges within BU to get an idea of what they offer as well as the average stats for each college’s students since there is quite a range. With stats at the Stanford level, even if you don’t get in, I assume you may be offered a spot in one of BU’s Honors programs. Good luck.
