Chaaaaaaaannnnnceeess PLEASE!!! :) (I have...cookies??)

<p>Okay, so it would be GREATLY appreciated for anyone to give me safety/match/reach projections please!!!</p>

<p>Enough of the dull stuff. I’m a white male (SENIOR!!) going to a 93%ish African-American noncompetitive public in St. Louis. (Not sure if that matters), and my family is low-income.</p>

<p>Grades: 4.0 UW/4.3 W
Rank: 1/300ish
ACT: 33 (E 34, M 33, R 35, S 31)
SAT: 1350/2030 (CR 660, M 690, W 680) Wouldn’t report, but it goes on my SAT II report right?
SAT IIs: Took in November…600-650ish expecting on Chem and Math II, >700ish on Math I. :(:(</p>

<p>ECs: (suck!)
100+ hrs. of volunteering at Lion’s Eye Bank
Have been in all 11 plays/musicals since fresh. year (takes up most all of my time…if you’re in theater you know)
Missouri State Thespians Communications Officer '07-'08
President Thespians '07-'08
Student Council Secretary '07-'08
“Peer Leaders” Videographer '07-'08
Treasurer Thespian Troupe '06-'07
Webmaster Thespian Troupe '05-'06
Other clubs: Mu Alpha Theta, blah</p>

<p>Various academic subject awards</p>

<p>Nothing stellar I know==Weak point.</p>

<p>Classes:
1 AP Junior Year = US History (2 on exam, NOT reporting obviously)
This year: Calc AB, AP English (dropping next semester though–terrible class), Honors Adv. Chem (no AP at school), Honors Spanish IV, Physics</p>

<p>Most rigorous schedule at school (sucks, I know)</p>

<p>Now, for the schools (ALL of them…almost):</p>

<pre><code>* Cal Tech

  • Carnegie Mellon U
  • Cornell U
  • Franklin W Olin C En
  • Harvard C
  • Illinois Inst Tec
  • Johns Hopkins U
  • MIT
  • Northwestern U IL
  • Purdue U
  • Rochester I Tec
  • Stanford U
  • U Calif Berkeley
  • U Calif Los Angeles
  • U Illinois Urbana
  • U Michigan
  • U Southern Calif
  • U Wyoming
  • Washington U St. L.
  • Worcester Polytec I

<p>I know I haven’t demonstrated passion for math/science, but It’s hard to demonstrate to at my school where we don’t have a math/science team (lame excuse, I know). I think I’ll write an essay (esp. for Olin/major related essays) about being an engineer trapped inside an actor…ha.</p>

<p>ALSO, question: I’m thinking of Biomedical engineering maybe…Can anyone go to med school despite their undergraduate major w/ a good MCAT score? (Even with another engineering?)</p>

<p>“Have been in all 11 plays/musicals since fresh. year (takes up most all of my time…if you’re in theater you know)”</p>

<p>So true :].</p>

<p>However, I can only help you with Michigan and I’d say you’re pretty much in, as long as your essays are good. </p>

<p>The only thing working against you is the fact that you took an AP class in junior year and you scored very low… I know it sucks.</p>

<p>Yeah, but they don’t have to know that ha…I suppose they will get suspicious, when I don’t list any scores, but whatever. xP</p>

<p>^ That’s what I meant.</p>

<p>Reaches: (mostly because your courseload is just not tough enough)
Caltech
Franklin W Olin C En
Harvard University
MIT
Stanford U</p>

<p>Slight Reaches: (because of the courseload–but also because of lack of awards–although you have a chance because of all the Thesbian stuff)
Washington U St. L.
Johns Hopkins U
Northwestern U IL</p>

<p>Slight Reaches–(because you are out-of-state and want to apply to engineering)
U Calif Berkeley</p>

<p>Match to Slight Reach (borderline admit):
Cornell U</p>

<p>Matches:
U Calif Los Angeles (OOS)–the OOS won’t matter as much here as at UCB–and the low income helps here
U Southern Calif
Carnegie Mellon U
U Michigan
U Illinois Urbana</p>

<p>Safe Matches:
Purdue U
Rochester I Tec
Worcester Polytec I</p>

<p>Safeties:
llinois Inst Tec
U Wyoming</p>

<p>Good luck</p>

<p>Thanks so much Cal!</p>

<p>But won’t colleges see the classes available at my high school? Granted, I did take office work this semester =/, but I’m still taking most of the AP/Honors courses offered.</p>

<p>They will see that you took the highest courses you could. They can’t punish you for something beyond your control.</p>

<p>^ Right, that’s what I was thinking.</p>
