Chalk Boards & Calculators & Open Book (Math & COSCI)

I have a lot of questions but most recently three in particular:

1) Do the classrooms have chalk boards?
I was looking up a review of the single professor teaching Math 225 in the fall and people are saying he uses “colored chalk”… Is this only some classrooms using chalk boards?

2) Are calculators allowed?
My friend just started her summer class at Berkeley and posted about calculators not being allowed in the same class as the 225, Differential and Linear.

3) For CoSci courses, what kind of exams?
I was looking at a syllabi for one of the courses and it stated closed book and no notes. Is this true for all CS courses? Also, I’ve had classes where we had to code a program or programs for our final/midterm but other classes where we had a pencil/paper test of multiple-choice, writing out some code, etc… What can I expect at USC?

Thanks.

1) Most have chalk boards although you can find white boards in some places, some professors also use slides and don’t use a board in any way.

2) Depends on the class, but I don’t believe you need it in math classes as they ask for symbolic answers for the most part. They will either give you nice angles or you can just leave it unevaluated. What do you learn from pushing buttons on a calculator?

3) Sorry, never took any CS classes.
