To all parents and students. When moving into Champaign housing (the west side of the campus), beware of the police as they are out to give $30 parking tickets. They could care less that you are just trying to move in. Their answer is park the car blocks away at metered parking and make sure you have rolls of quarters as you will need them. Champaign is not a friendly town. You are better off to get housing in Urbana, the east side of the campus. Urbana police are much more friendlier and so is the town. Champaign is taking the university for every penny it can get…and they are taking it out of the parents for simply trying to move their kids in. Most of the parking area on the streets of Champaign are reserved parking and the cost is quite high.
