HOOK
Due to family circumstances, I had to move out at 16 in August of 2011 and have since lived alone.

My “wants” are Harvard, MIT, Yale, CalTech, UChicago, and UPenn. I’ll also be applying to CMU, WPI, and Northeastern. I plan on studying CS or EE.

My main concern is whether or not I should apply to other midrange schools (a la CMU), in case I get into none of my “wants”.

I say you have a great chance at your “wants” because of your stellar SAT score and GPA: not many people have both or either for that fact. I would say that you should have at least 2 solid safeties if you don’t get accepted, but you have great stats with an obvious focus as can be denoted in your ECs. The one thing that I notice you lack is leadership positions. Other than that though, you have a great resume! good luck to you!
please chance me at “chance me guys!” by me, raca1111
thanks!

Yes, you have a good chance at any of those schools (if there is such as thing as a "good chance at Harvard, etc). Besides your perfect SAT scores and grades, your ECs are good, especially since I have heard about LGBT students (based on your founding of a GSA at your school) being given preference to increase diversity. If you are planning on majoring in science/math/technology related majors, schools are definitely looking for that so that boosts your chances as well. Good luck to you!

Are you LGBT? If so, you will have a much better chance in the college admissions process.

I wasn’t under the impression that LGBT counted as a URM. How would one even express that on an application?

Wow good job on your SAT. I’m sure you will get into atleast one of your wants, but i’d add a safety or two just incase.

Your Hook makes you move competitive. I can’t guarantee anything but at least a few of your wants should take you, especially if you apply early decision.
