Schools (List of colleges by your initial chance estimate; designate if applying ED/EA/RD; if unsure, leave them unclassified)
If a scholarship is necessary for affordability, indicate that you are aiming for a scholarship and use the scholarship chance to estimate it into the appropriate group below; also, for colleges that admit by major or division, consider that in chance estimate.
Assured (100% chance of admission and affordability):
What year are you? I assume you have only one year of college completed (otherwise why apply to UVA McIntire because you can only transfer in as an incoming second year?)
If you want to major in business why are there schools on your list that don’t offer business majors (Stanford, Pitzer)? All in all, this is a reachy list with a 3.3 college GPA.
If you only have one year of college, applying to UCSD is out because they require 60 credits to transfer.
I think U Miami is your best chance for admission, and don’t see you being successful at the others. Being full pay will help. But you might consider applying to Arts and Sciences rather than Herbert to maximize your chance of admission, and then transfer to Herbert from there, assuming you do well.
I have completed 2 years of college, and so, in most cases, I am a junior. Thank you for the advice! UMiami is definitely pliable, and I have many safeties to supplement my applications. I would obviously prefer, like most, to attend one of my reach universities. Are there any extra schools you would consider given my list and figures? I did “complete” a lot when referring to extracurriculars, so I am hoping that will assist my efforts kindly.
Is there a reason you’re transferring out of Arizona State? They have a decent program there.
Also, when you apply as a transfer with 2 years of college, most of your high school history is not relevant at this point.
Your college history and relevant coursework/ ECs from the college will be considered.
Are you looking for prestige at this point? Stanford is very picky with their transfer program. They are known to admit a handful of students. So far, the GPA will be an issue at the reach schools.
I have not attended Arizona State in years and feel no connection to the campus or culture (my time there was during the height of the pandemic and completely hampered my “college experience” that I cared so deeply about at 20/21). That being said, I believe there are many options that are better (especially at an OOS tuition’s price range).
Stanford is a super shot in the dark and I know that. I am hoping to get into ONE of the following schools (especially USC and Michigan).
Perhaps what you’ve done since will help. Work experience etc. may be seen as a plus.
I think both will be tough but a better shot at Michigan but not Ross. Try and see.
Covid was tough. It’s too bad. ASU is strong and for analytics, combine with supply chain and you’d be near bullet proof at ASU.
Your Gpa is low vs the transfer profile and over half of USCs transfers are from California Community College. Your math may be too low too- can’t tell.
Also many of these will be double ASU’s cost - can you afford?
Only Chapman seems assured to me. Wouldn’t never pay for them vs ASU. Hope I’m wrong. If full pay Miami possibly.
USC and Michigan are not in that price range. You are not going to find the schools, that you’ve listed, as better priced than Arizona State.
The majority of your list is extremely costly.
If anything, they are insanely expensive and the return on your investment may not be viable in two years. The current graduates are having a difficult time finding employment.
USC, a private university is over $90k.
Michigan, a State University, is OOS and is $80k+. You can expect that price at UCSD.
Don’t expect merit scholarships there.
Since you’re over 24, you may be able to qualify for loans, but for an undergraduate degree, it makes no sense for you to be paying $200,000 for two years.
Also Federal funding, is known to be on the chopping block, for loan programs.
Your GPA and resume of what you’ve currently done, will impact your chances at these schools.
Covid was a different time and the schools are trying to get back to normal, so it makes sense that you didn’t get the right vibe at Arizona State because we were at a different crisis mode.
I would suggest you contact Arizona State and see if you can return. Applying to these other schools will be a challenge and you may be disappointed.
The original post said that @Papag is from New Hampshire. I think that they should also contact UNH and see if something is possible there.
At this point I would forget about Stanford. The rest of this list (with the exception of Chapman and U.Miami which I do not know at all) all seem unlikely for both admissions and affordability.
I am finding myself wondering whether if OP returns to ASU or UNH and does really, really well, whether one of these reach schools might be possible for graduate work, if graduate work ever comes up as an option. This would be a thought for way off in the future however.
