Are you a HS senior and is this your whole application list? What is your sure thing for acceptance that you would be happy to attend?

Are you a high school junior or a high school senior? If a senior, shouldn’t you at least mostly have your applications in already?

You are a strong candidate. The large majority of applicants to Cornell and Claremont McKenna and WUSTL are very strong applicants. These are reaches.

I think that you chances for BU are reasonable, but it is NOT a safety. I am not sure if it is a match or a low reach.

The University of Washington is a very, very good university. You are in-state, which will help with both the probability of acceptance and the price. I do not see it on your list. Why is it not on your list? If you are a senior then I am hoping that you have already applied and gotten in, which if so would change the tone of this thread enormously.

If someone has the opportunity to attend the University of Washington at in-state prices, then I personally do not understand why you would fly across the country to attend BU, particularly if at full price. Both are very good.

This is exactly my first question also. You need to apply to a safety. You really should apply to at least two safeties. I do not see any safety on your list.

I also do not see any discussion of budget. Can your family handle something close to $400,000 for four years of university with no hardship and no debt, or have you run the NPCs, or are you just overlooking this critical part of the application process?

Regarding budget, and looking at your intended major, I also wonder if a master’s degree (such as an MBA) is possible in your future. If so, can your family afford to help you with that also? You might very well be looking at 6 years of university. Also, given an excellent in-state option such as the University of Washington, I wonder whether four years in-state plus a two years for an MBA at a highly ranked but full pay private school (such as Cornell or even Stanford) might be preferable to just spending four years at a great university such as Cornell or WUSTL (both of which I have visited and have liked a lot).

Also: Congratulations on your excellent results from high school and your excellent SAT results. This should put you in good shape to be properly prepared to do well when you get to university, regardless of which school you end up attending.

RD tougher but you have a chance. Foster a shoe in. What major in business ?

Good luck.

What does this mean? We don’t even know if this student applied to University of Washington…but they sure should!

Sorry - I got that from @DadTwoGirls message. I thought she applied.

Well then she’ll have to hope l. Hopefully ha a safety or I’d add someone still accepting RD in case. BU would be best odds but it’s so unpredictable. Syracuse cross shops heavily with BU - while the environment is different, they draw similar applicants. So it might be a nice fall back if OP had no safeties.

Of course I’m not a fan of business or econ. As they are not the same, I wish kids would focus on the one they want.

This means no limit or not available? If not available, find out from your parents what is affordable (have them run net price calculators).

sorry i got accepted into my two safeties already and i’d be happy attending both!

im lucky enough to have no constraint

econ is the option i "fall back on” as if the school/college doesn’t have a undergrad business program (say for example, duke) i’d apply econ. otherwise, i applied as a business undergrad w a concentration in finance/accounting.

finance or accounting!

I get it - but they are nothing alike.

You could have chosen, as an example, Richmond or Bucknell, vs CMC.

Major over school - always - in my opinion. Econ is not a sub for finance or accounting.

Well…you have two acceptances already…so just wait and see about the rest.

However, some* schools have a very business-flavored economics department. CMC on the OP’s list is such a school, as evidenced by courses like these: Economics-Accounting - Claremont McKenna College

*Probably many, especially where the school does not have a business major, since it is likely that most economics majors have a more professional goal after graduation rather than continuing to study economics at the graduate level.
